one way Basic Economy $40 ORD-DEN

I was just checking fares ord-den and it is showing a $40 one way fare in basic econ on flight 1487 on Feb 3rd and another $50 fare on the 4th on flight 2380! Something is a bit hinky!

That is revolting, over $240 difference between coach and trash fares.

Last month I flew LAS-PHL on a last-minute ticket. Lowest fare of the day was almost $500, except for basic economy on the red-eye which was $92.

I can't figure it out either. I got the $92 and paid $81 for MCE. Lost a few EQM's but that was the only real impact.

Suck it up in Basic Economy for three hours. The rules of classical economics still apply, certainly on a route like CHI-DEN that has nonstop service by five carriers.

My first reaction was they were matching Frontier or Southwest (out of MDW). But a quick check on 2/3 shows Frontier is $145 and SW non-stop's are $282. United also pricing out at $282 ORD-DEN non-stop. Unclear why AA would have BE fares on just one flight, and then match the $282 regular economy on the others.

You missed NK on ORD-DEN. The BE fares on this route look to be aimed specifically at NK, while the main cabin fares are fairly close to what WN charges.

I noticed on a recent screen that a huge difference in the pricing over the day that didn't make sense based on the load factors. Then I saw the super cheap AA flight was at the same time as an NK and F9 flight.

And it would have to be Spirit or Frontier for BE because of the carry-on and seat assignment restrictions. I hope any low Southwest fare (which are not many) are matched to regular Main Cabin fares. Even then, Southwest offers more (free bags aside from the no change fees).

I guess they are trying to get some last minute money on a Saturday night flight.

UA has matched those fares to ORD and LAX.

Last week I paid $79 rt DCA-MCO for a last minute weekend getaway. It was great! On the way back the front of the plane was empty so the FA let me have a whole MCE row to myself!

I guess you'd prefer to pay more?

For 40 USD, i'd deal with BE.

Might as well buy the BE fare and then move up to MCE after departure if a seat is available.

You Can Move to a Main Cabin Extra Seat on American Airlines for Free After Takeoff. No, seriously. | The Forward Cabin
