What Happened to Email notifications of upgrades?

I received an email this morning that I've been upgraded on my Tuesday morning JFK CLT flight. Perhaps its speculation, but I set up flight notifications on the AA site for each of my flights. That might be the key to getting email notification of upgrades.

I've completely stopped getting emails since the week before Thanksgiving. That's 0/4 upgrades that I got in advance with no email.

I just received a notification for my upgrade for next Tuesday evening (100 hours out). It was the first one I had received since November 15.
