Seasonal Route DFW-KEF Reykjavik B757 —> PHL-KEF Jun 2020

American Airlines is the latest carrier to enter the scrum to carry passengers from North Texas to Iceland, joining two Icelandic airlines who announced new service from DFW International Airport to the popular tourist destination earlier this year.

From the article it looks like the route will run from June 7-Oct 26, 2018 and be operated by a 757.

I'm surprised there's demand for this.

There isn't. They're trying to push Wow and Icelandair out of Dallas

That makes more sense. Well hopefully I can burn a SWU there while it lasts.

I see this as a huge money pit for all involved, especially AA.

I'd thought Wow and Icelandair were mainly in the market to provide dirt cheap 1-stop connections to popular destinations in Europe, not necessarily just getting people to Iceland.

Delta did the same thing in Minneapolis to push Icelandair out. Discovered there was plenty of demand for both...

By pushing them out, they've pushed out competition to Europe. It's not about Iceland at all.

From zero to three carriers. The only other markets that I can think of with three airlines serving DFW are hub to hub with Spirit over the top (a few more if you add WN out of DAL). I'd say the odds of any service to KEF from DFW in summer 2019 are probably less than 50/50. Feels very much like the old AA running Legend out of town (sniff).

No they didn't. They just haven't been successful at pushing out Icelandair.

Cool, been on my list of places to go. Interested to see what the fares are. Icelandair for a week in June Tues/Tues looks to be around $320 for Y, $900 for Y+, and $1350 for J.

Any ideas how Iceland Air has been doing out of PHL since it began service there at the beginning of the Summer.

So, no schedule yet, but tickets will go on sale Monday?

And the 757L (with sleeper seats up front), or the domestic 757 (with recliner seats up front)? (Does AA still have domestic 757s, or only 757L's now?)
