737-800 wingtip color differences

passing through OHare this morning and noticed that the 737-800 are not consistently painted. Some of the wingtips are gray, others have a patch of red paint—any idea on why the difference?

Safety/visibility!

It's to be more visible for the ground crew to avoid collisions.

They only started doing this a couple of months back, hence why not all planes have them yet. You'll notice them on the A32Bs as well. (Not sure if any A319s have them)
