Check to see if AA overcharged you. I had this 2 weeks ago. I bought a $1094 ticket and they charged me twice over 2 days. The 3rd day, they refunded the second charge. They issued the refund the day of travel, which scared the .... out of me thinking they cancelled my flight. I found later on after checking my statement the double charges.
And it was AMEX that notified me of the refund, not AA. |
Maybe it's an error. If so, you may see it reversed soon enough. Don't spend it just yet !
However, when audit picks up an error which favors the customer, a refund does have to be issued. Despite what some people think, a public company can't simply pocket the cash. |
Have you verified your trip is intact, and have you generated a receipt?

I just got an e-mail which looks just like what OP described.
-I did not request a refund from AA. -The e-mail spells out my full first name and full last name correctly. -Master Card with last four digit listed on the e-mail is not mine. -E-mail has AA logo. -Says sender e-mail address is first.last@aa.com -E-mail does not have any attachments nor links. Looks highly suspicious. What is the point of this e-mail when there is no attachments nor links? One I can think is that this e-mail did not bounce back to the sender as undeliverable, confirming to the sender that this e-mail address is active e-mail address where bunch of spams and phishing e-mails can be sent… |

As long as the CC number is correct (the proper pax) then it should shake out fine. |
Follow-up:
I did go to AA.com refund page and entered the ticket number listed on the e-mail. Says refund was issued on the same date as the e-mail indicates, same amount as e-mail indicates, and to the same last four digit Master Card e-mail indicates. So was this legitimate e-mail form AA but sent to the wrong person? |

I have received emails from airlines for reservations that I did not make. I assume that someone mis-typed their email address. This could have happened in the OP's case.

A few months ago, someone signed up for Netflix with an email address of mine. I'd guess stuff like this happens fairly often.

I always try to contact the airline to make sure they know about the email address issue. Hopefully it gets taken care of.

AA schedule change - but I don't want a refund
Some months ago, I booked 4 domestic one way tickets on AA with sAAver miles (so 12,500 miles each). They just notified me of a change in my flights that now causes me to leave 2 hours later, arriving at my destination 2 hours later. I am not happy about the change as I would much prefer to arrive earlier rather than later.
I called but the only other flight they said I was eligible for was an even later flight. She offered to refund my miles - but that doesn't help me since pretty much all other flights that day are now 30k miles. Is there anything I can do? My ideal would be a flight that leaves about 4 hours earlier than my original flight. First time using AA miles so a lot to learn. Thanks :) |
Call back and Ask them to open saaver inventory on the flight you want - with a 2 hour schedule change they should be accommodating

HUCA.
In virtually ever instance of an award schedule change I can recall, I was eventually able to secure the preferred itinerary - even in cases where saaver award inventory was not available. Perhaps my status helped? |
