Does Check-In Time Affect Upgrade Chances?
With the new procedures, does it make a difference when you check in? This would include issues like the waitlist transferring to airport control, and the chances for reasonable cash upgrade offers as an alternative to a comp upgrade.
My specific next case is SFO to DFW at noon Friday, but the question is general.

There's a Wiki, found by a search on upgrade, priority.

I don't see anything in the Wiki regarding check-in time (affecting upgrade chances, one way or the other), and it certainly doesn't address LFBU upgrades, which I believe the OP also inquired about.
"...and the chances for reasonable cash upgrade offers as an alternative to a comp upgrade. "
But perhaps I'm wrong.

Check in time doesn't count, other than if you or a travel companion are dropped from the wait list and need to update with an agent and that could happen to affect upgrade slots that become available.
For Load Factor Based Upgrades, LFBU offered at kiosks or check in counters time of check in could certainly affect your success possibility, because it's quite possible any possible LFBU offered when the flight opens could be taken up by the time later arriving passengers check in.
