ARCHIVE: End of Feb la k miles for 4 500 mile upgrade stickers (2017)
Its the end of the upgrade sticker period today...... Has anyone called in an attempt to get prorated stickers for being close but, not over the 12500 mile threshold???
|
I called yesterday and was prorated 2 stickers (although I think it should have been 3, but whatever). Had no issues. They already are in my account.

A coworker called in today and was told that they "don't do pro-rated stickers anymore". Is this a thing? Went with a HUACA but hasn't called back just yet.
|
just did it - worked for me. added 2 on the spot. Plt member.

I just logged into my account, and I need 10,232 miles to my next batch; I guess I'll pass. My 500-mile upgrade balance is 43 anyway right now, and have a tough time using any of those. |
I called reservations and they declined. Then hung up and called the AAdvantage desk and they rewarded me two for haveing 7,500 miles on the meter and were very nice about it.

EQMs needed to earn 500-mile upgrades- 1,060
Eek. Thanks for the reminder. Agent #1- no idea what I was talking about, then insisted that I will get 4 stickers when I fly another 1000 miles. |
You guys are having better luck than I am. I called on behalf of my wife who is <600 miles away. First the agent said that it is a calendar year thing. I explained that it was a program year thing and she then agreed. Then she said that she couldn't make the exception. But she suggested that my wife call (rather than me) and see what would happen. So that will be the next step.

Make sure you're calling 800-882-8880 rather than reservations or elite desk.
At the recording, say "Speak to an AAdvantage Customer Service Representative" (if you listen to the whole thing, it asks you whether you want "a, b, c, d, or e . . . you can also say x, or Speak to an AAdvantage Customer Service Representative"). I just called on my wife's behalf and got 2. Was hoping for 4 because she had 11893 out of 12500. Might call back tomorrow to see about getting the other 2 but will wait until someone else reports positively that they were able to get 4. |
Just called in and got 2. Had 7115 miles to go but a lot of travel booked in the coming weeks.
Thanks platbrownguy for the tip, saved me a lot of time. |

Call in for wife (plat) who needed 2402 and asked for 3 of the 4. Granted.

Especially since they just keep accumulating in my account. :( |

Good to hear some got 3 - will call back in the a.m. and push for another for wife. (it's my $40 I end up paying, might as well)
Also with noting that customer service is only open something like 8 am to 7 or 8 pm central iirc. |
Got 2 from a call this morning. Was ~1600 short and hoping for 3, but I guess I can't really complain.
Agent wasn't overly pleasant, seemed a little pestered about the request and was sure to mention that this was a "one time exception". |
Was 18 miles short of 12,500 on the MTEU counter and called this morning. Agent gave me two stickers, which left me a little disappointed, so I called again with the hopes of securing a third or fourth. To avoid confusing the second agent, I gave her the same verbiage (no mention of the first two that were already added), and she offered to add two more. The way she spoke made it seem like she had no idea that the first two were already added, which leads me to wonder if this is some exploitable loophole, i.e. keep calling and getting stickers added. I did not call a third time to try for myself.

anyone know how long these pro-rated stickers usually take to post?

Got 3 out of 4 on third agent.
|
I was about 600 miles short, and flew the requisite miles on 2/28. That flight didn't post till 3/2, with the counter having reset to 12.5k less that flight mileage. Was gonna call, but woke up this morning to 4 upgrades in my account and an unchanged MQM counter.
|
Is there any reason everyone is calling rather than sending a message through aa.com? I know that messages to AA are often appear to have been answered by bots using boilerplate negative language. However, a previous thread on this topic mentions sending a message as an viable method.

How can I figure out how many EQMs needed to earn 500-mile upgrades I had as of Feb 28?

I was 5,200 miles away from my next batch. I sent a DM to the social media folks and they didn't understand my issue. I sent a message to AAdvantage Customer Service on Wednesday, March 1. They called me on Friday, March 3 (at 8:00am!) and said since I had more than half the required miles they would credit me with two. I'm satisfied.
|
Just called in to the Platinum service desk this morning. The agent processed 3 stickers very quickly and I gave her one of the (many) customer service recognition vouchers :) Great start for the day!
|
I was 121 miles short... I emailed AAdvantage customer service at got 2. Kind of annoyed as I see others getting 3 or 4 when I was this close. Anyone think it's worth calling to try to get more? I just dropped down to gold, so I doubt I'll get to use them anyway

Thanks for sharing your experience. |
I was 400 miles short. I played dumb about the 12.5k threshold and agent gave me 4 stickers. Easiest time ever. Usually given a rounded down prorated amount but got the full balance this time
|
3 stickers confirmed by e-mail, no phone call made.
|
Strike three! You guys are lucky, or maybe I'm just unlucky. On behalf of the wife, (1) I called, (2) I emailed, (3) She called. No dice. She was 589 miles short. The agent was clueless and barely understood the request. He kept saying the stickers don't expire, you are confusing them with SWUs, the counter doesn't reset, etc. Finally we gave up. We FTers know so much more than the agents. And he had the nerve to say "she has 32 stickers, that's plenty!"
|
I called the general line this morning after days of forgetting to call. Asked politely and came up with 3. I was some ~3250 mi. shy from the 12,5k mark, so I was happy. Thanks AA! :)
|
Data point: 10,200 MTEU. Emailed, asked for 3, got 2.
