Booking a complex fare

In looking at booking a complex fare with AA, how is this done? In my example, pulled from ITA Matrix, it would be

9/15 - AA740 (PHL-MAD)
Connecting on 9/16 to IB3914 (MAD-PMI)
9/20 - Vueling 3915 (PMI-BCN)
Connecting to AA743 (BCN-PHL)

The price I'm seeing is $626/Person, but since this is on multiple airlines without codeshares, how can I book this online with AA (since the TATL legs are with them) and get that price? Is it possible?

The Book with AA link doesn't seem to work, but you can book on Priceline. Otherwise, just call in.

If calling in though, would I be charged a phone fee? Also, typically, I prefer booking with airlines in case something goes wrong. If booking through Priceline, how protected am I if I miss a connection?

Google Flights works great for complex itineraries:

Except AA's website has more recently been garbage at taking these. Did you click the price link? It takes you to an error page at AA

You're protections don't vary depending on where you bought it. As always the airline the brought you in to the city is the one that rebooks and pays to fly you onward.

Google flights also has it's limitations though - for example, doesn't find Air China flights. Priceline has been the most reliable for me - if that doesn't work, bookwithmatrix would be the next best option.

Using the Matrix powertools under Chrome, I was able to take it to the payment page on the Use American Airlines (Europe/Asia/Pacific) link. It priced out at €575.08.

I also got it to price at $640 on the book with Iberia link. Although the Iberia link took you through MAD both ways.

You have to do a little playing with your browser, install Greasemonkey or Tampermonkey and then install a user java script (and check for updates periodically). But IMO it is the best way to attempt to book fares found on Matrix.

ITA-Matrix-PowerTools - Userscript for Orbitz/DL/UA/AA/BA/CZ/IB/LA/LH/LX/TK

The OP isn't looking to book Air China flights or through Priceline. S/he is wanting to book a complex itinerary directly with AA via aa.com, in which case Google Flights is probably the best go-to in this situation.

Did I say he/she was? No I did not. I was simply pointing out one limitation of google flights. That's it.
