Close Citi Exec and open Prestige at same time?

I'm planning on cancelling my citi exec since I'm not getting much of an offer to keep it. I'd also like to open a Prestige card (yes I'm aware AC access goes away next year). Would I be able to cancel the Exec card and have them open a Prestige card, and transfer the credit to the new card, all in one phone call? Or should I do these actions separately?

I did exactly that last year.

It's a trade-off: they'll do it entirely in one call with no credit pull, but you don't get any sign-up bonus on the Prestige card. If you want the sign-up bonus, do a new application and credit pull...and then cancel the Exec card.

I did this last Friday. Pinniped is correct in that if you want to get the bonus you have to apply and not just convert your existing card. I applied over the phone and was escalated two levels before they would approve me. The reason was since I already had both the exec card and the platinum select card with pretty big limits they would only approve the new card with a small limit. I told them I was planning to cancel the exec card and they transferred most of that limit over to the new card. It was a pretty straightforward discussion and when I cancel the exec card I will move the rest of the limit over.

I guess there is a handful of us who signed up for the Exec last year with the 100k signup bonus and are coming up for our annual renewal

I applied/was approved for the Prestige last Wednesday and closed my Exec card on Friday. Yesterday, I received the approval letter (via next day air UPS) which I thought was odd, and then received the actual card today, just in time for my flight out on Thursday.

Me three! I was planning on doing a cash back card but the Citi Prestige seems like a great deal to me - at least for the next year!
