Flying via JFK vs MIA

Not for anywhere close to the AA price.
LHR-GRU-LHR on BA 747 is £2268 fully restricted business.
Above LHR-JFK-GRU-JFK-LHR is only £100 more but is fully flexible business.
And given I need the Tier Points to reach BA Gold, it makes sense.
I flew via MIA last month and layovers weren't as good or flexible as JFK.
Trying to throw a BA metal into the itinerary makes it more expensive too, which I can't justify to work.
Where as £100 extra for a fully flex ticket is easy to justify given how fluid work can be.
