Gate-checking a bag to final destination?

Gate-checking a bag to final destination?
I will be flying DFW-JFK-HEL, both segments sold by AA but latter segment operated by AY.
If the GA at DFW forces me to gate-check my rollaboard, will she be able to check it all the way to HEL at the gate? My connection won't allow me to pick it up outside security at JFK.
