General Information
Despite it's size and five terminals, DFW is a fairly easy airport to navigate and connect though. If you have any difficulty, look around for kiosks / booths staffed by volunteer Ambassadors - they can usually be spotted wearing "ten gallon" cowboy hats. They offer maps and terminal guides (which include dining and shopping information).

There is no need to leave the secure area to move from one concourse to another. *Exceptions are arriving international flights. In such case one must normally clear immigration and customs, reclaim bags and proceed through security.

Terminal Link's blue and greens vans arrive every 10 minutes and will transfer you between all terminals once outside of security.

Walking between terminals
- Terminals A-C and B-D (international) are connected at the ends by departures level walkways; the people mover belts on these walkways have been out of service at least for years. Estimate at least a five to ten minute walk between A and C, B and D, more if gates are farther from the connector.
- Terminals A and B are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts, all of which are out of service as of 7/18/19. Courtesy carts use this route by using lifts.
- Terminals C and D (international) are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts.

Q. If I am making an international to international connection, what is the process?
There is no international transit process in most U.S.A. airports, but (DFW and MIA have a ITI baggage exception for international to international if arriving from some "approved" international origins). Arriving internationally, unless you have been pre-cleared or are excused by meeting ITI requirements as described here, you must proceed through U. S. immigration (there are kiosks and a fast channel for Global Entry approved passengers, and a "green line" for those with no checked bags), recover your baggage from the baggage carousel and proceed through U. S. Customs. There is a "green line" shortcut for passengers traveling only with carry-on baggage (no checked luggage) and there are Global Entry kiosks and a short cut to Global Entry queues.
Upon exiting Customs there is a bag drop facility; drop your checked connecting baggage, exit to the landside arrivals area.
NOTE: if your connection exceeds 11 hours or entails remaining overnight, you will normally be required to take your baggage with you and re-check it within ~four hours of departure.
NOTE: Any liquids in excess of security allowance will have to either be packed in checked baggage or, in the case of duty free purchases at your origin (or in air from other airlines), presented in STEB (Secure, Tamper Evident Bags) with receipts to TSA
Proceed to the kiosks to get boarding passes for your ongoing travel, or check in and re-check your baggage, then proceed through TSA security to airside (see the "DFW Security" section). Your international departure will be from Terminal D, also your international arrival terminal.

Arriving Passengers: After collecting your baggage, follow the Rental Car signs to the designated pick-up area on the lower level of the terminal. From there, board the Rental Car shuttle bus. Buses run 24 hours a day, depart (theoretically) every five minutes and reach the Rental Car Center in approximately 10 minutes.

It is often faster to just walk between gates, even if they happen to be in different terminals. So long as one isn't E, then there isn't a choice, you have to use the train (or exit security and take a landside vehicle between terminals and re-clear security, which I would NOT advise).

Now former UA/CO flyer looking at new options for a trip from LAS to FCO and then coming back VCE to LAS. AA offers a good deal on PE flight that goes LAS to DFW to FCO with an hour and 49 minutes to change at DFW, then the return is via PHL with 2HR 10 to connect. We do have TSA pre and GE so I am thinking these should work but I am not all that familiar with either airport. I have flown in and out of them in the past but never had to do a plane change. Thanks in advance for any advice and information. Kind of scary making an airline change after so many years.

I connected a PHL after arriving from BUD in October 2018. With GE and PreCheck I was at the Admirals Club within 15-20 minutes of landing. As always, I travel with carry on bags only. I have no idea how much time it would have taken to wait for checked luggage before going through customs.

Thanks for the info. I figure two hours in PHL should be fine and it it is not, well it is the end of the trip and I get back a day late and it is no big deal. The rest of the schedule works and the fare is about the most reasonable I have seen. UA is still being stingy with the MUA's and wants to sit on 80K miles and $2200 of my money for 10 months just for the chance that my upgrade will clear....and it it doesn't I get a whole lot of hours sitting in the back with 33 inches of leg room. Yep time to pull the plug on them.

Hope you all had a lovely New Year!
Just a quick question, I will be flying from Florida- London via DFW on AA (backtracking I know!). I will be taking AA2075 and connecting on to AA50 to LHR. I have at least 7 hours in DFW and was wondering if I could get any tips on what to do to spare time? Also AA2075 will be operated by an A321 and will be sitting in MCE, will the plane be equipped with IFE? And lastly, do I have to collect my bags at DFW and check them in again?

Regarding DFW Airport, you can access all terminals from the secure side via the automated train that runs every 2 minutes between terminals. All 5 terminals have great restaurants but the best are in terminal A or D. If you are booked in business or first, you have access to the AA Flagship Lounge in Terminal D, if you are in First going to London you will have access to Flagship First Dining. There is also tons of shopping in terminal D.
Regarding IFE on American, you will not have a screen in your seat, but you will be able to access IFE on your own device by connecting to the inflight Wi-Fi. There is no charge to access the IFE on your own device.
You should make sure you check your bags all the way to LHR when you check in in Florida. The bag tags will print out with DFW AA2075 and then LHR AA50, just make sure both cities are listed on the bag tag, and you will pick it up in London!

If both flights are on 1 ticket bags will be through checked
If the flights are on 2 separate tickets bags will not be through checked

Is it just me or are there others that enjoy riding the Skylink the full loop a few times when time permits? Love when I'm the only one on the train too.
I like to check out the fish tank at E21, there is also a yoga space under the Skylink escalator in that area if you are so inclined.
That's 45 minutes down....

If OP wants to stay in the airport it may be worth purchasing a day pass for lounge access. There’s also the Amex Centurion Lounge if OP can access that.

That is not necessarily correct. LAA A321's - the ones which sit 181 passengers, 16+165 - have individual seatback screens. The LUS A321's - with 187 seats, 16+171 - and all A321neo's - 196 seats, 20+176 - do not have seatback screens.

Even when the seat back screens are available the advantage of using your own device is that you can avoid the annoying announcements at 10,000 ft.
