https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...=2&output=html According to All Things 787, American's next three Dreamliners, N801AC, N802AN, and N803AL, are all undergoing Pre-Flight Prep and should be delivered to American before the end of March. Not sure what all this means, but shouldn't international service begin sometime this summer? Wouldn't the certification of N800AN accelerate the service entrance of the next three air frames? |

I believe the pilots did the same sort of practice when the A319s/A321s began arriving. Right now, the pilots have the sim time, but zero actual takeoffs and landings and zero hours in the type. Some practice couldn't hurt. |

Anyone know why the delay? Just curious, on a brand new plane surely it isn't mechanical.

Semi-OT: has anyone else noticed that now that RNAV STARs have been implemented at DFW, 13R no longer seems to be assigned for arrivals from the NW? |

flyfo didn't say but actually I do assume the delay was maintenance if anything's broke you do want it fixed at the factory!

American has placed firm orders for 42 Boeing 787 aircraft, with the right to acquire an additional 58. American will take delivery of both the 787-8 and 787-9 as part of the 42 firm orders. American expects its first 787 to enter revenue service in the second quarter, flying domestically between American's hubs for several weeks before being launched on international flights. Link. |
I wonder what J seat version AA will install on the new 787?

UPDATE, January 23, 9:50 p.m. EST: Correspondent Austin Speaker was in Fort Worth when the 787 arrived at 7:06 p.m. CST. Operating under the AA delivery flight number of 9702, the aircraft registered N800AN was delayed due to a small software issue. Link. |
Does anyone know about the first revenue route on this new bird? Would love to give it a try, especially in J!

That is one beautiful looking plane when painted in the AA job. Can't wait to see it in person ^
|
Now that AA has their hands on it, there's still a lot of work. No joke - they posted a video during the delivery cycle of the 1st new 737s where they talked about changing a whole bunch of things from "Boeing" to "AA".

The consensus is that it would start revenue flights on hub-hub routes, where there's enough traffic to support a bird that big, so would expect to see it DFW-ORD/LAX/MIA, but nothing firm has been announced.

Currently they're probably operating under FAR91 ("generic" aviation regs, not able to carry paying passengers). I worked AA Ops back when they started taking delivery of the MD-A-Lemon (aka, MD-11). Delivery of ship #1 only meant that pilot/mechanic training could start in "full force". Delivery of ship #2 stepped up the training and started the FAA certification. Sked service wasn't going to start until shortly after delivery of ship #3. Really hard to start sked service with only 1 or 2 aircraft (AA operated DFW-NRT for several years with a fleet of two 747SPs, it was quite a challenge). AA had trouble getting FAA certification as they couldn't keep the 2 airplanes "in service" (not grounded due to mechanical problems) long enough to complete the certification flights. But that's getting off topic :p |
