AAdvantage Aviator Silver and Red Cards from BarclayCard
There are five AAdvantage-linked Aviator-branded cards by Barclaycard. Two of them can be applied for directly, the other three are upgrades or downgrades after receiving a Red card.

The Many Flavors of Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator

Where can I see information on all available Barclays Barclaycard AAdvantage cards?

Aviator Red (On AA.com)
Aviator Silver (On AA.com)
Aviator Business (On AA.com)
Aviator Red applications are available at the airport, in flight, or online at https://www.barclaycardus.com/.

Red cardholders may receive an offer to upgrade to Aviator Silver after a period of time that varies, usually 3-11 months. The offer appears in the online "Offers" section, if it is declined there may be no simple way to receive the upgrade. Be careful with your clicking! Silver benefits begin at the start of the next statement, but the increased annual fee won't hit until the next card-member year starts.

Aviator Silver Vs Red
Annual Fee: Silver $199 Red $99
Miles on AA Purchases: Silver 3x Red 2x
Miles on hotels and car rentals: Silver 2x, Red 1x
Miles on all other purchases: Silver 1x, Red 1x
Bonus Loyalty Points: Silver 5k LP after $20k/$40k/$50k Per Status Year Red None
In-Flight Food & Beverage: Silver $25 back/day Red 25% back
Wifi Credits: Silver $50/anniversary year Red $25/anniversary year
Companion Ticket: Silver 2 Companions Red 1 Companion (Minimum Anniversary-Year Spend Required for both)
PreCheck/Global Entry: Silver $100 credit Red No Credit

Aviator Silver Bonus Loyalty Points: Bonuses are based on spend during status year, not anniversary year. When upgrading to Silver your Red spending will carry over. Five thousand Loyalty Points after spending $20k/$40k/$50k. You cannot stack multiple Silver accounts to earn this multiple times.

Companion Certificate: $20k in anniversary year spend required, issued about 45 days after you annual fee hits. Red gets one companion, Silver can have two. $99+tax for companions, round-trip 48 contiguous US States only unless you live in Alaska or Hawaii, in which case you may fly from your home state to the 48.

Of course, one could also not chase status if flying an additional 10,000 miles is a stretch and not your normal flying pattern. Not chasing unnecessary status would likely save a good bit more than $500...

Does anyone know if the $25 food/beverage credit is only for the primary cardholder? If my spouse flys can she use the card to receive the credit? I read the disclaimers and cant find anything.

I would assume it's $25 per account, so your spouse can use it towards the $25.

The $25 F/B credit sounds like a scam to boost top-line revenue. Anyways, I'm going to get an extra card and let my kid have at it.

Beware:
"Statement credits will appear on your Card Account 6-8 weeks after purchases are posted to your Card Account. "

Make sure you pay off the full statement

Don't the secondary cards have the same card number?

I have actually had a FA ask me for ID. On the back on my credit cards, instead of signing them, I write "Check ID", to help prevent fraud if it is stolen. One FA saw this and asked me for my ID, which I was impressed by.

I'm not following--why do you think it's a scam, and who's top-line revenue do you think is being boosted by this? AA or Barclays?

As an aside, this technically invalidates the card, and exacerbates the problem of merchants asking for ID as a condition of card acceptance (in violation of Visa and MC network acceptance guidelines). How does this prevent fraud when stolen? Many merchants allow self checkout these days or have the cardholder maintain possession of the card for the duration of the transaction. Your liability for fraudulent transactions is zero, and you would be issued a new card with the current one cancelled in the case of it being lost or stolen.

Yeah, authorized cards have the same CC number but the authorized users name on it.

Honestly, the more I think about this, a $25 F/B credit seems to be a campaign by Barclay's to kill the appeal of the Citi Executive Citi card. Why go to the Admirals Club to tank up when you can tank up $25 worth of food onboard?

I've have a Red card inherited from US Airways days. I don't fly AA much but I've kept the card around because the annual fee provides 10k miles per year and it's my only true chip+pin card.

My anniversary date is Feb 5th so I was going to call and cancel now since my annual fee is due. However, it looks like I'll get 1 more 10k miles bonus on my next anniversary in Feb 2020.... I think. So I'll be holding on to the card for now and then cancel or downgrade to a no-fee card after.

Wording in my email is:
10,000 anniversary bonus miles will be discontinued effective May 1, 2019
You will receive your last 10,000 AAdvantageŽ anniversary bonus miles in your next anniversary month after May 1, 2019

Same, my anniversary date is 2/10 I think. I'll keep it and see if I get one more 10K. Then it's getting canceled. My CSR provides more value at this point.

My DW & I each have an Aviator Red converted from US Airways cards. In each case, the AU card number is different from the primary.

(...unless there’s a computer error, in which case call us up and we’ll be happy to fix it. Really.)
