Hmmm ... that oddly looks like concur :-) ... I have seen that happen, and when I had to call in to deal with a travel issue I found out that the lower price was from a Govt Bundle fare they were selling ... but I do agree with you the price swings are just amazing! I also find they are worse (at least via concur) on Saturday evenings .... maybe AA and US Air are doing inventory batch jobs or something ... who knows ....

Why is AA pricing its flights operated by US at such higher prices?

I am trying to book a ticket on US metal. However, I have some AA gift cards to use, so I would like to book through AA.

AA has the flight I want (08/13/2014 SEA-PHL AA685) but is charging $352. However, US has the same flight (US685) for only $257.

Any idea on why they are pricing so differently for the exact same flight?

Any ideas are much appreciated!

Although it is the same aeroplane, it isn't the same flight

One is a US flight, based on US airfares and US availability and
One is a AA flight, based on AA airfares and AA availability

if AA's pricings or availability are different, then the fares will be different

For the flight in question, there is a great difference in availability

Thanks for the info. That seems odd, given the merger.

Could you direct me to where I can check the availability like you did?

I used Expert Flyer which is a paid tool , though has a 5 day free trial available to test it out with

For years there have been price discrepancies on the mutually code-shared AA and BA flights to/from LHR. I'm not surprised that the same thing is happening on the joint-listed AA and US domestic flights.

Well known and well reported issue. It won't be completely resolved until systems are migrated over to AA's current platform. They are using separate systems for pricing and inventory management so you'll see such differences until the migration. That will be while yet before that happens.

Exactly! Until the systems are totally merged, there will be differences and discrepancies like the OP has found. For the meantime, you will have to check both carriers independently if you want to find the lowest fare.

This thread is somewhat unclear, and some of the information I've seen in other threads is equally unclear (i.e. "Additionally, as part of this new option, AAdvantage elite status members will now be able to upgrade on US marketed, AA operated codeshare flights.").

I booked a US marketing, AA operated flight since it was about $100 less per person. Obviously happy to sit in coach, but would love to upgrade. AA EXP agent told me that I can only request an upgrade at check-in, at the airport.

Hang up and call again or this is the facts?

I'm looking at a a flight RDU > PHL > EWR with return EWR > CLT > RDU for a US operated flight

Sold by US Air: $650
Sold by AA: $1100

Similar issue but slightly different and a question. Looking on kayak for BOS MA rt. 2 options meet my needs, same exact flight times, connections etc. $80 difference in price. The book via AA option says flights operated by US, the book via US option says flights operated by AA. Completely different flight numbers on each. Got to be the same flights, no? Buying 3 tix so the difference will be $240.

Other related question, I get free checked bags for myself and traveling companions on both AA and US thanks to the Citi AA card and the Barclay US card. If I book on US for AA operated flights, or vice versa, will that benefit apply? Will it not because the flight wasn't booked on the airline that is operating the flights? What if I book via Chase UR mall will I still get free bags?

Edit: in looking at US site directly, the BOS LGA leg is US and the LGA MIA leg is on AA. My question re the baggage fees still applies...
