Systemwide Upgrade.

Not sure where you searched, or what terms you used, but the wiki is your friend. The link
to that can be found in the READ THIS FIRST sticky at the top of the page. Lots more
useful information there as well.

Cheers.

How do you get one? Become a top tier elite on AA (you'll get 8 of them) or cross the 2 million lifetime mileage earnings threshhold (you'll get four that way).

If you fly AA enouth to be an Executive Platinum member, you will automatically get 8 eVIP certificates and you can use them to upgrade.

What would you be willing to pay to upgrade? I consider $350 each way to upgrade such a long flight quite good value - works out a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a business class fare.

Your right, but i would have preferred if the $350 were in miles than dollars. As in the $350 equivalent of miles. But I guess its not too bad.

The going rate for converting $ to bonus miles (aka RDM) is 2.5 cents (via AA.com), before taxes.

I don't know what the rate is for converting miles back to $, or if you can. Doubtless someone here knows ...

Personally, I don't mind forking over the $350 + 25k (40k to/fr India) especially for overnight flights. It does add up if you're doing lots of TATL/TPAC trips, though. Good reason to shoot for EXP, IMHO!
