Flying with a gold but not same reservation anyway of getting around bag fees?

I just realized that I am on the same return flight as a friend on mine. He is a Gold. Is there any way (besides by having him check my bags as his), that I can get around paying the baggage fee?
Am I able to have our reservations combined even though the first legs are different flights?
Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by "first leg" - outbound flight or a connecting flight on the return.

Scenario A)

Ghurty: LAX-JFK, return JFK-LAX
Gold: SFO-JFK, return JFK-LAX

Then yes, it could be possible to link the PNRS but you would have to check in at JFK together and check your bags together

Scenario B:

Ghurty: LAX-JFK, return, JFK-DFW-LAX
Gold: LAX-BOS, return, BOS-DFW-LAX

Not possible.

Yes, it is always nice to save a bit of money (esp. given the Dow's performance right now) but you are going to add a lot hassle to your travel in order to save $15.00

why not just have your friend check you bag for you? assuming he/she only has one and you only have one, that should work... and it's by far the easiest way to save $15.

From what you mentioned, these are 2 separate and distinct reservations with their own Record Locator number. You can try calling AA to see if they combine the reservations, but it seems to be easier to just have your friend check the bag as his, but for this to work, you both have to check in together at the airport.
