AA refuses Hotel for alleged flight delays due to Air traffic control problems
Recently I and my wife flew KUL-LAX and connected to AA via DFW to MCO. Our flight from LAX to DFW was delayed over two hours and we missed our last flight out of DFW to MCO forcing us to overnight. AA refused us Hotel accommodation in DFW at 11 Pm at night as the flight allegedly was delayed on take off from SFO to LAX due to air traffic control problems and we are not entitled a Hotel. It took us two hours to find a Hotel.

Correct. You are not entitled to a hotel for weather or traffic control reasons.

I'm sorry to hear that. As EXP, I would expect that they would pony up for a hotel even though they may not have to. They've always done it for us even when it was not their fault (how about a broken plane on a runway preventing our takeoff). Did you only talk to local staff, or EXP desk as well? Sometimes they can make things happen. What about AC...or were they still open?
Cheers.

Perhaps it wasn't clear to the agent that the OP was an EXP. Also, despite delays and extreme fatigue, it is important to be as nice as possible to the AAgents.

I am always nice to staff as they have to follow policies. The agent was clearly aware that I was an EXP and even suggested that I should claim my Hotel expenses from CS stating my status

I suspect the ATC issue was also a weather one. How is this the airline's fault. Given the financial issues airlines are facing, why should they have to pay for the hotel?

Do you hold an non-US passport, you can force the issue and get accomodations if you are on an international itineary.
International airlines compete very competitively.
