Saw passenger sneak into 777 business (or F) class. Does this happen often?

This reminds me of Seinfeld when Elaine tried to sneak into first class. A classic episode that was.

I am not sure about AA but I think it could work on other airlines. On Emirates, if you are downgraded (happens a lot 
) and F/J seats open up at the gate, often the GAa will simply cross out your Y seat no and replace it with a J one. This has happened to me 2-3 times. Each time on board I was asked for my boarding pass. Once they thought I was scamming (I showed them my J ticket) and the other two they said "oh okay" and walked off. 
I have no doubt that someone could artfully create a situation in which it seems that they were actually supposed to be in J.

i was sitting in business on a JFK-LHR flight back in december. it was an overnight, so i was asleep most of the time especially since the on board entertainment was busted! stayed awake through the meal service and the seat across the aisle from me was empty. when i woke up in the morning there was a woman sleeping there who i had earlier seen go through to her coach seat. seemed like the flight attendants were okay with it though, so its quite possible there was some extenuating circumstances....

1. when Jerry & Elaine check in, there is only 1 seat in F (which Jerry got), so Elaine had to fly coach, so there should not have been an empty seat for Elaine to poach mid flight.
2. the plane shown is Southwest, which has no First class.
the slippers, fresh flowers, and hot fudge sundaes are real though.

Last week my wife got upgraded last minute to PVG and the agent changed her seat number with a pen.

A simple change to the COC would probably do it. Something like "If you receive any transportation or related services (including, without limitation, changes to your ticketed flight or class of service, checked baggage fees, unaccompanied minor fees, Admirals Club usage or related services) from AA or its affiliates for which you have not paid AA in full prior to the departure of your flight, or for which a credit card charge is subsequently denied, you agree that AA may charge any credit card or bank account on file for the amounts due. Passengers obtaining upgraded classes of service without payment shall be charged the difference between their actual ticket purchase price and the day-of-travel unrestricted ticket price for the class of service and flight actually flown."
Then according to the above wording AA would try and charge me for occupying five seats on those empty rows on their B777 services when I paid for only one.

Unless it is a Weekend First upgrade ticket, then it is at a discounted price.

last year during boarding on a DFW-EZE, a Y pax took the J pillow & duvet from an unoccupied J seat back to their seat with them. The J pax eventually arrived, and was looking around for their pillow, I pointed backward, and the FA went and retrieved it. Did they really think nobody would notice that big white pillow and duvet back there ?
The main reason I board Int'l J when called is so that my ammenity kit isn't swiped by the time I get there.
