How come AA doesn't fly to Australia?

It seems silly, doesn't it? I mean, I read somewhere that they have a 777 free now from ending the Toyok to San Jose flight, so why not? If it's all Qantas, then can I upgrade somehow, maybe with my miles?

If I recall correctly, AA stopped flying to SYD in 1992 or so, why I don't know.

The system works better for AA and QF as is. QF derive around 20% of their total profit from Oz-LAX they ops at LAX are quite extensive upto 7 747's there at a time. So they would be unlikely to stay to friendly with AA were they to start eating into in it. AA also doesn't seem to have much of an interest in Asia/Pacific. No service to HKG/SIN/BKK either. If you are on the codeshare then you should be able to upgrade????

There are a lot of places AA doesn't fly. Why don't they fly to Prague?

Cheers.

could someone who is familiar with aa operations clarify if the following perception is correct.

"AA prefers to concentrate on revenue per seat while United concentrates on getting more seats per flight filled and hence the expansion of United means more destinations rather than improvements first onto existing services. AA is doing the later." does this sound right?

This would explain why AA really utilises their codeshare partners of Qantas and Cathay Pacific

Doesn't Delta already fly there? I thought it was added last month.

I don't think AA ever had a T7 to Toyok, or any other plane for that matter...

I recall flying LAX-HNL-SYD and SYD-HNL-DFW on AA back in July '91. CO used to fly to SYD as well. Imagine it was unprofitable, and I doubt AA retains rights to fly to Australia and it would be difficult to re-negotiate.

If UA wanted to simply fill every seat on every flight without regard to revenue, they could just give a bunch of seats away. Their bankruptcy lawyers would LOVE that. It'd be just like old times. AA concetrating on revenue per seat does not exclude trying to fill more seats. An empty seat = $0 revenue.

Are you saying AA's never flown to Tokyo? Because they most certainly do. And with the 777.
