Why are CLT-SLC flights so expensive

I was looking to book my flight to SLC the week of 4/16, and the cost is around $750. Thats more than I paid to fly to MEX. Just wondering if anyone knew why this flight is so expensive. By the way AA was the cheapest flight out of CLT...just another reason to like AA.

That is the week after Easter and a major holiday week. A lot of flights are expensive that week now because most of the cheap fares have been sold out.

Weekend flights as of recent out of CLT to the West Coast have been and are pretty expensive generally on all the airlines. Loads are up, prices are up, etc. Still, AA is way to go if you ask me!

Everyone knows that one cannot get a decent fare in CLT as US holds the CO Jones on that town.

Word of advice? Try Raleigh/Durham

If you don't mind the 3 hour drive, you will save a lot more money since Southwest is present, I'm seeing some fares at $350 all in on United and $371 all in on American ^

Travel period probably hasn't got much to do with it... the OP's flights are in 9 days, and the cheapest 7 day advance fare in CLT-SLC is $714. As opposed to MEX, where there are fares as low as $300. There are also RDU-SLC 7 day fares for $300.

As to why those fares are all the way they are, see above posts.

Shouldn't flying from one airlines hub to anothers be cheap, since the two carriers have to compete? I flew DFW-SLC a bunch last year, and the 14 day advance fares were very reasonable, I thought (usually around $330).
