Tiny MR for EXP (win a prize)

Calling all MR gurus and wannabes:

I need 2636 Q-miles to hit EXP. I have an unused ticket for $600. I'd like to complete the trip on the same day and fly on either 12th, 17th-20th, 26th-30th with 1 connection or less.

$64,000 question: what flight do I take from SFO or OAK that gives me 2636 Q-miles for $500-600? The answer seems to be trivial: nonstop to DFW... but I can't hit my price range on the above dates. The best I can do is SFO-DFW or OAK-DFW for $688 around 29th and 30th; add $100 change fee and that's $788.

Any other reasonable routing suggestions are welcome. Best suggestion (lowest price per minute of total flight time) gets a PRIZE of your own choosing - hotel coupon (SPG50 expiring on Dec 31st, Omni comp upgrade or 50% off weekend both good thru mid 2005), Southwest drink coupons, free rental day on Hertz or one upgrade sticker on AA. Ties to be resolved by entry timestamp.

P.S. Okay so this isn't really a "real" MR but I did say tiny

It's more miles than you need, but in greater comfort and easier, IMO:

12/18 SFO-JFK Flt 18 dep 10:00pm arr 6:14am 762
12/19 JFK-SFO Flt 179 dep 9:15am arr 12:37pm 763

Fare $667.70 at AA.com

Widebodies each way, and on Saturday night I'll bet your upgrade clears to J. On the Sunday morning return, you could upgrade again if you want to spend the stickers or take row 21. Either would be more comfortable than a trip to DFW from OAK.

You specified same-day, but in my book, the trip only kills half of Sunday (if you sleep on Saturday nights anyway), and by 12:30pm on Sunday you will have had brunch and read the NYT. And qualfied for EXP.

Transcons have been $216 for much of this year - but it's crunch time.

Good luck.

it seems to me that fares into/out of DFW r always sky high -- aa's (near) monopoly of that mkt i guess -- and coast-to-coast always seems cheaper.

Thumbs up Y'all rock

All:

Thank you for your suggestions. Kudos to everyone for replying early on Sat morning with SFO-LAX-DEN, the brilliant NYC suggestion (I priced it at 569 for week or two ahead), both TPA routes and THE WINNER - SFO-IND. The NYC route made the most sense in terms of comfort and sleep time but it would have burned 300 more bucks so I opted for a cheaper option of SFO-DFW-IND (ORD can freeze and 6am departure is way too early for me).

I shall be reading and watching movies the entire damn Sunday

If any of you want one of the coupons I've offered, send me a private message.

IND can freeze, too. For that matter, so can DFW (ice storms ).

Sounds like a great mileage run. Good luck.
