hello all -- i just had a few questions regarding the platinum challenge:
1) how long do you have to complete it once you are signed up?
2) how many miles must you fly? (must it be a full fare ticket or will any discounted ticket do?)
3) if i did it this year would i be platinum through Feb. 2005?
4) who do i call to sign up?
thank you all for your helpful answers!!!

Is that info still accurate?
I called AAdvantage on behalf of a friend and the agent told me:
if the the necessary PLT challenge miles (10K) is completed June 1, 2004 or later, then you get the status until Feb 2006.
The unofficial guide to AA site states that you get the status until Feb 2006 if you start the challenge on or after June 16.
I would confirm if you are taking the challenge.

I checked the sites out and have a question (I feel so stupid
) How do you determine what your fare code is on a booked flight and any flights you want to book? I don't see anything on my electronic receipt and I don't remember seeing anything on the website when I booked.

I don't think anyone knows for sure about the cut-off date for 1st half of the year versus 2nd half of the year challenges, but I have frequently heard starting on June 16th or later to get status until the next year + 1. If you finish by June 1st, that means you could have started in March, and I really don't think they give you a year + 1 for that.
JuileAA, if you have already booked, your best bet is to call AA directly and ask a reservations agent what your booking class is.

Keep in mind Few Miles' site hasn't been updated since 2002 and some of the info, especially how many points some/most economy fare classes earn, is starting to become a little outdated. See here for the most recent fare class/Elite point earning details.

Hi all I'm a newbie here.
I'm flying 11,000 miles in aug/sep but i booked in S class (doh lol) so i only get 0.5 a point per mile, thus only being able to get Gold.
Does anyone know if i can upgrade the fare class so I can get 1 point per mile and thus platinum?
Cheers
Jamo
