LAX - DFW Red eye recommendations

Seeking advice. I need to fly LAX to DFW on either the 1215a or 1255a redeye flight. Which one should i choose to have a better chance of getting an upgrade to first class?

i am PLT on AA, and will be flying on a discounted Y fare.

The 1215a flight is a 763, the 1255a flight is a 32B.

My flight will be on a Thursday night in August. And both first classes look empty. Should i assume the later flight will be more empty by the time my flight comes around? However the earlier flight is a 767.

The 767 has 30 F seats while the 32B has 16. That would point me to the 767.

That, and an upgrade on the 767 means you have a seat that you've got some chance of a decent nap on.

I assume you are using sticker (x class) upgrades? Should be SWU and mile space now to book, no?

Incidentally, those flights are truly horrible if you want to hit the ground running the following day. You really can't get enough sleep to feel refreshed - or at least I can't.

I dunno... ANC-SEA is about the worst red-eye I've ever taken.

My worst redeye was LAS-DFW. My best redeye was IAH-PEK on Air China.

What a choice! "Take me out and shoot me" or "shoot me and take me out".

But the 763 still has the older, more comfy seats, so I'd go for MCE / Exit (no, I'd really try hard for the crew rest seats in row 17!) rather than the relatively unpadded, slidey seats in the 32B.

Thanks for the feedback. The 767 wins.

The reason i'm doing it is I promised my 6 year old son and his friends i would take him camping that day, and then a business trip came up. Put the two together and you get a red eye flight. Now that does sound like a prefect AA commercial, doesn't it.

Anyone in marketing listening?

all the row 17 seats were booked.

Got the first row instead.

If you don't get your upgrade, perhaps someone in those seats will. Keep your eye on 'em; I had some decent sleep in one of those on, iirc, a SFO-ORD (or was it ORD-SFO?) good luck; it's heartening, IMO, that you're doing this and teaching your son some great values. ^

Please, that's Amateur hour compared to ANC-DFW .

Worst possible domestic redeye ever, hands down, bar none, first or economy in that Eisenhower 757.
