What plane am I on?

I'm on AA 2420 right now lax to dfw. It's a new plane, AVOD in all seat backs. It is an airbus A321S according to safety flyer. I didn't know AA had non transcon A321. It's definitely not the transcon version. First is 4 rows of 2x2 recliners. The exit rows have infinity leg room.

Seatguru says I'm on the A321T, but that's not accurate. Anybody know? This flight is usually a 738.

If the flyer isn't appropriate for that equipment, wouldn't that be a major safety violation?

It's an airbus 321, but not the a321T they fly JFK-lax. Seatguru incorrectly thinks that's what this is. Looked up tail number , looks like it's a 4 week old A321S. I like it, big upgrade over the 737 and 757s that I usually get on this flight.

The T doesn't stand for transcon?

For a while, AA internally coded these planes "32S" to differentiate them from the 3-class transcon A321Ts (which are coded "32B"). For some unknown reason, these 2-class A321s have been showing up in schedules as "32B," which is confusing (witness several threads and various posts in existing threads about this very issue).

AA flies the 3-class A321T (32B) between JFK and LAX/SFO, and no other routes. Period.

The 2-class A321's safety flyer is correct - it's an A321S.

There are several threads on the plane but no pictures yet. I'm scheduled on it MIA/LAX on 9/1 and will try to snap some if nobody else beats me to it. On a Y-UP so may be possible to get a few before it fills up.

This is AA's new one not the US Air painted in AA livery.

That is not the same thing. This thread is about a 2-class AA A321, not a US Airways A321.

oops, my mistake. I thought this was a former US Air, repainted to AA plane. Nevermind.

No, not a US Air plane. This one was brand spanking new. I really liked it, started out back in row 9 and then my upgrade came through after I had boarded into MCE so I ended up flying F, nice big screen for AVOD, angle of screen very adjustable... I like the design and interior features of the new AA planes. I've now had the new 738 and this A321 for the LAX-DFW route over the last several months and both of them were pleasant surprises compared to the usual planes.

US has some "brand spanking new" A321s also. The key distinction is that your plane was "operated by AA." cynical was talking about pre-merger US planes that have been painted in AA livery but still operated by US Airways.

Of course, the US planes do not have the AVOD in every seatback. I don't believe they feature MCE, either.

This plane was 4 weeks old, so it could not have been a pre-merger "brand spanking new" plane.

Of course, there is no reason to suspect this is the case.
