cat meowing continuously question

I was on flt. 3 (jfk-lax) on 7/31/14, seated in 10F. The pax in 10A and 10B, each had cats in containers. One cat was quiet, the other meowed continuously. The Bose noise cancelling headphones helped a lot to muffle the noise; the engine noise (very prominent in 10F) was also a "relief" from the meowing. [Crying babies eventually stop crying]
As I noted the headphones helped a lot. What is the (AA) rule re cats meowing (if there is one). If they were in coach--NO supplied headphones and probably much less engine noise, the meowing would affect even more pax.

I think compensation is based on the # of meows per minute.

I once drove two cats from Chicago to DC; one meowed almost continuously until her voice started to give out at which point the previously silent cat joined in. So I question whether the quiet cat may have added the occasional meow.

I would suggest AA compensate you with something from their CATalog.

Those pax better be moving to bring a cat on an airplane. There is no reason whatsoever to bring a cat on an airplane otherwise. Recently me and my girlfriend moved in together, we brought her cat and a 30 minute drive in the car the poor thing was doing those groaning sounding meows. That was a 30 minute car ride, I can't imagine doing a transcon.

If the pax were moving, fine, you gotta bring the cat somehow. If they wanted to just bring fluffy on vacation then

You might be surprised to learn how far people will travel for cat shows.

http://www.showcatsonline.com/x/traveling-by-air.shtml

You soon learn how your cat responds to travel, with ours, the ones who didn't enjoy it we didn't take on long journeys. You soon learn it is no fun for anyone if your cat is not relaxed and comfortable so why put the cat (or anyone else) through that.

You mean like the thread over on the Delta board in the last few days asking why they don't wave the pet fees for top level elites so they could bring their cat with them every time they travel?

No rule: as long as the pax notified AA they were bringing the cats as carry on & paid the pet in cabin fee, they are allowed on.

I'm sure that's right; AA has a rule about MPM; I just can't remember if that's Meows Per Minute, or Meows Per Mile.

The OP might get a few miles from AA...

Does the same go for unruly human companions?
