Loss of that smoked salmon was not a tragedy. It was extremely low quality salmon; dry/chalky and very fishy tasting. The replacement appetizers were better. Also good to see that vile salmon removed from int. F flights. They switched salmon types in 2006 or there-about. Prior to that, it was much higher quality.

Agree. The initial type of smoked salmon used was actually quite good and made for a classy presentation.

Interesting, I didn't know they have pineapple juice. Will ask for this next time.

I don't believe they do.

I recently had a seatmate order an orange juice with Disaronno Amaretto. I'd never heard of that combination and followed suit - it actually turned out to be pretty good, although a bit sweet. Made me wish on was on a beach somewhere watching the sunset. I've been staying away from bloody mary's on the morning flight - the amount of sodium in the Mr. & Mrs. T mix is frightening.

Could someone recommend good cocktails on domestic First? I've always gone with cranberry vodka, it's pretty good but I am interested in trying something new. Unfortunately I am not a big fan of bloody mary.

I like to limit my calories in a mixer so how about rum and diet coke with a lime...or vodka/fresca (does AA serve fresca) or vodka/diet Sierra mist. Cheers!

Vodka soda is my choice.

Yes - the salad/dessert cart is still used on the 762.

IIRC, the lobster tails were eliminated around 2005 and the smoked salmon around 2008. Transcon F also had caviar until around 2000/2001 (before my time as a frequent flier - but the thought of caviar on a domestic flight nonetheless fascinates me). I haven't seen the chateaubriand for a while on the domestic flagship F menu (although there's almost always a steak option), but it's still on the international F menus.

Then having a Roast Beef cart would really push you over the top, Though I was in 10 or 11 at the time this was on the LAX-JFK route. I also remember flying AA's 747 to HNL with the Roast Beef Cart, cut at your seat..

FL 1118 Feb 26
Pre-order breakfast choices:

Cereal
With milk and fresh fruit

Soy Bacon Quiche Lorraine
With asparagus and herb-crusted tomato

Neither look very appetizing.

Really enjoyed the new cereal option on the LGA-DFW morning flight. I assume that it is the current standard option. Even the FAs were gushing about how much better it is than Crispix (which is obviously not difficult).

On BOS-LAX (2-class F), on my flight Friday, I can choose between any of the entrees offered on the 321 F (beef, pumpkin chicken, pasta duo). Interesting.

I had that on an early morning flight to CUN last summer. FA had the box in hand while taking orders. Good stuff.

Me too. Also served for Breakfast from TUS - DFW last Friday. FA had boxes on cart and poured each bowl as requested. Tray also included a pre-packaged granola snack mix which I just added to cereal bowl.

My recent BNA-LAX flight was miscatered (different items than the online pre-selection). Choice ended up being honey Dijon chicken or a polenta (very good).

Curious though, it was the reduced service - no appetizer and cookie for desert. Has LAXBNA been cut to this reduced standard (unacceptable for a 4h15m flight, longer than eastbound LAX-MIA), or was that a product of the miscater?

Route: LAX-JFK
Date: 2/2/14
Departure: 12 pm PST
Equipment: 762

No PDB - actually pretty disappointed that it was something like 1h45 from the time I boarded until I was able to get water. Anyway, here's the menu, which was new as of the weekend:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/membe...75-photo-1.jpg

Due to some sort of "catering issue," J passengers had a choice of the shrimp or the salad. Both looked pretty good to me, but I chose the salad.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/membe...73-photo-2.jpg

The quinoa and tomatoes were both rather tasty, though some of the kale pieces were tough. Finally, the chicken.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/membe...74-photo-3.jpg

Broccolini was really good, and (surprisingly) properly cooked and not brown and mushy like most of the vegetables you see. Same chicken breast that's in everything, though the tomato sauce was good. Overall, one of the better meals I've had on a transcon recently. Food had taste and was not too heavy.

MrAndy1369 Feb 3, 2014 2:45 pm

I think BNA-LAX was always reduced (Basic) service...could be wrong, though. Was this a lunch or dinner flight? Lunch flights get the Basic service on all midcons.

EDIT: Ah, yes! After a little digging... Here's a post from January 2012; it was still Basic only service for the same flight (dinner, BNA-LAX).

Completely related to your post, but here's a recent development for DFW-LGA; seems Basic Plus service was also discontinued on that route... not sure what to make of this. LINK

AA Lunch SLC-DFW
I picked Beef Fillet Accompanied by jalapeño Jack polenta and green beans:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/membe...ch-slc-dfw.jpg

AA Dinner DFW-MIA
Choices were: Bocconcini Pasta or Grilled Herb Chicken
I picked the chicken:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/membe...er-dfw-mia.jpg

As a Delta flyer, I have to admit both meals were better than Delta's. Yes, the beef was overdone but I like it that way. Chicken was not dry.

However, I must point out there are no special meals on anything less than transcon on AA, while there are on DL mainline (which is what saves me when flying DL).
