Need help: award ticket to Munich
Ok maybe a break from all of these speculations...
I am thinking of booking a flight from LAX to MUN in February using miles.
However, it doesn't look like AA flies to MUN.
I checked FRA and it looks like there is a lot of availability of 20k each way saver seats available. There is some availability of biz class seats at the reduce 50k each way available also.
I would prefer to find a way to fly from LAX - MUN on biz class or 1st class reduced miles if possible. Can I do this if I call them (via partner airlines)? Or will it cost more miles?
Can I also book this with a stopover for free? So it would look like:
LAX-CDG (stopover for 2 days)-MUN (stay for a few days)-LAX
I guess the question is...can all of this be done in milesaver economy for 40k miles total assuming seats are available?

Might want to check flights to MUC
But you're correct in that AA doesn't fly there. You'll have to connect on BA or IB, which requires a call to AA. If seats are available, they'd be 40K roundtrip.

OW partner BA flies LHR-MUC.
LAX-LHR-MUC would cost the same miles as LAX-DFW-FRA.
Alternatively, FRA-MUC by train takes about 3 hours.

You can't have a stopover in CDG on your way to MUC.
If you wanted to do that, you'd have to book 3 awards and spend 10k more miles: LAX-CDG (20k), CDG-MUC (10k), and MUC-LAX (20k).

If available, the IB-IB connection via MAD would be cheaper than the AA-BA connection via LHR: the OP would avoid the LHR PFC, as well as the fuel surcharge on the BA LHR-MUC leg.
Although no free European stopovers are available on AA's All-Partner awards, a stopover in each direction at a North American gateway (like NYC, MIA, etc.) is a possibility.

LAX -> DUS (AB) -> MUC (AB)

Another option:
LAX -> DUS (AB) -> MUC (AB)
Unfortunately, it appears that AB's LAX-DUS service is seasonal, and does not operate in February, when the OP wants to travel.

"OP could do LAX-MIA (AA), MIA-TXL (AB), TXL-MUC (AB)"
I wonder about that. AA requires that the over-water carrier (at least when it is not AA) have a published fare from origin city to destination city in order to use the over-water carrier on an award. I see that AB has a published LAX-MUC fare for travel starting in May; I'm not sure if they have one for travel in February.

Buy far enough out and you can probably get that ticket for 29 euros (about $40). I'm back in Germany later this week and have a couple rail tickets. The Deutsche Bahn site is very user friendly and has an English version. Frankfurt Airport is fortunate to have mainline rail right at the airport. There is some risk, though, in that if you miss the train with one of these discounted tickets that they have no value. A fully flexible ticket on the same route is 91 euros.
