American & Etihad establish FF relationship (June 1, 2011)

As of today, AA and EY FFs can earn/burn on each other's flights. This is a far better alternative to Gulf Air.

Does that mean we earn every etihad flight ( without AA flight number) ..

That would be great...

"Starting June 1, members of Etihad Airways Etihad Guest frequent flyer program will be able to earn miles on eligible American Airlines flights. Likewise, members of American Airlines AAdvantage® program will be able to earn miles on eligible Etihad Airways flights. The airlines plan to expand this agreement later this year to include mileage redemption across the two airline's networks."

I am guessing its still very limited due to the words "eligible flights" in there... but potential to be really awesome for Advantage people.. + etihad is top airline.. esp for us going to India.. more one stop option..

No doubt an interesting & welcome development...but surely this can't be the big announcement we were waiting for. Can it?

I've never flown Etihad, either. I'm curious... if you've never flown them, on what basis do you say it is a great airline? Is that comment based on what you've read?

I'd like to check the airline out sometime in the next year or so.

It looks like they're trying to protect the code-share flights already in service (ORD/JFK-AUH) by not allowing AA mileage accrual unless you buy the AA codeshare. No word on EQM, but would imagine that unless you're purchasing the code-share, no EQMs would apply.

I just flew the airline on a codeshare to AUH 2 weeks ago, and can also say that this is an incredible development for those that need to get to the UAE and destinations beyond and don't want to connect in AMM. AUH EY terminal is world class, and especially for business and beyond, the airline is hard to beat with any other OW competitor. For those of us that like to stay within the OW network, AUH is a great alternative to DXB, where the travel time, especially if you're staying in the marina area in dubai, could be the same or shorter than the DXB to the marina area.

No elite miles though, unless it's a codeshare. So it's not like AS.

This is welcome news.

EY is a very good airline if you're sitting in a premium cabin. (I don't know about the Y experience.)

Any Etihad flight from US(JFK, ORD, YYZ are not eligible based on aa.com..

How about the flights between AUH and DEL/MAA ?

Yes. My brother flew in EY. He said it is as great airline and comparable to Singapore Airlines .. So I am sure their planes and crew are great.
