I think this depends on one`s use for the miles. I just bought 60,000 to ticket a business class award on JL. The dates and flights were exactly what I needed, and I was able to put the itinerary on hold pending the mileage purchase.
Purchasing miles in this case was substantially cheaper than buying a ticket would have been, and with the 20,000 bonus miles, I will effectively "earn" more miles than I would have by flying paid C class.
Buying miles obviously is one of the most expensive ways to get miles, but if you need miles for a valuable upgrade or award ticket, I think it can make sense.

Has AA ever come up with a 100% bonus promo?

A quick question. I am extremely new to the miles game so I was hoping one of you could help me out. I just got two of the 75000 AA mile cards from citi(one Amex, one Visa). My wife and I are going to Europe and I would like to fly J class. With the 150,000 miles I am getting via the CCs, I could buy the extra 40,000 miles with this promotion for 750+tax. The cheapest business class tickets I can find are around 2800 each.
It certainly seems like a bargain for two J class tickets to Europe for $750 plus two credit checks. Am I missing something? Is there another way to accumulate 40,000 miles quickly for less than $1000. Thanks for the help.

Is the AA Advantage purchase up to 60k + 20k miles real?
Am I missing something here.
For $1500, I can get enough miles for JNB-LHR-JNB in J class, excluding taxes. The BA price if I book and pay for a ticket is over $5000.00 (including taxes and fee's which is about $700) - what am I missing here?
This deal seems to good to be true.

However, ultimately, yes it would likely be cheaper to buy the miles than the tickets

...of course there is not always reward availability in the cabin you prefer, on the day you prefer, or with the number of miles you prefer spending. As always, ymmv.

AA has had this offer for November and December. I think there is another thread regarding the bonus miles offer.
If you know your dates of travel and know that the J award is available for the miles, then it would be a nice deal. Others who are able to take advantage of the Citi AA 75K miles card offer can get the miles cheaper.

For me buyAAMiles will reduce the 1MM target in 18 months, not so bad. Expensive indeed but it helps. Let's hope AA don't change the rules until that
