DTW / Detroit Admirals Club CLOSED; Other Options (consolidated)
Flying AA from DTW -> DFW -> SFO tomorrow and am looking for a lounge my girlfriend and I can work / take conference calls in at DTW - North Terminal. Does anyone have any advice on where we can go? We need to be in the lounge for a bout four hours - from 1PM - 5PM EST.
On a side note, it'd be even better for us to get on an early flight out of DTW to SFO - but everything is oversold. Confirmed stand by is not available, changing the flight would cost $1K, and standby looks bleak since there aren't many open seats. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

The AC at DTW was closed shortly after 9/11. No new club was added when AA moved to the New North terminal in September 2008.
If you happen to be an LH Senator (or otherwise have access to LH lounges), there's a lounge at the opposite end from the AA gates that is open a few hours before the sole LH departure.

There's a Hilton connected directly to the airport, you might be able to get a day rate room for $100, or simply hang out in the lobby lounge/bar...they have (or used ot have) their own TSA lane connecting you right to NW's terminal.
You can also buy day passes at northwest/delta, or look into a trial membership (i think northwest/delta have something like $90 for 30 days, which would allow you & your girlfriend), i think you can walk airside through all the terminals, but don't know for sure...

It's not a Hilton, it's a Westin. That property is attached to the McNamara terminal used by NW/DL+CO, a shuttle bus ride from the New North terminal used by AA.

Thanks guys. I think I'll just check into my flight early and then take a shuttle to the Westin.
Really sucks that there isn't any lounge available to AA flyers at the North Terminal though.

Man, those giant portable fans were ugly.
Always felt like I was stepping back into the 60's in the old terminal.

I would second the recommendation to use the Westin. They have a decent restaurant, plus some quiet lounge space with plenty of comfortable seating.
You can't get into MacNamara with an AA boarding pass, so that is not going to be an option. You have to take the shuttle bus to get to the Westin from the North Terminal, which is a bit of a hassle, but it beats spending 4 hours in the NT (which is admittedly light years beyond the what we once endured in the Smith terminal.)
It actually looks like there is a space near the AA gates between D26 and D28 that may eventually be developed into an AC. Not sure if anyone here has heard whether or not that is the case, but I am keeping my fingers crossed...
