This promo is a dud. Look at all the things you have to do to get the miles. What happens to all the pleople that already have the credit card the club membership etc.
They should take a clue from Alaska Airlines look at the details to their propmotion. You get 2000 miles that count toward elite for just flying.

Although, I probably will sign up for the 5k bonus just to take a few flight off my travel list this year.
The 500 mile bonus probably has to be the lamest in the industry. HP should at least make it 1000, or launch some other promotion.

God Bless America West and British Airways
HP - Platinum/970k miles
BA - Dirt/Soon to be Gold
NW - Dirt/Soon to be Plat
UA - Dirt/19k miles

When you read the details of all the promotions on Alaska's web site all of them say "Miles apply to actual miles flown and do not count toward MVP or MVP Gold status"
This promotion does not say that.

The timing on the 5000 Elite Miles offer is great for me since I'm switching to HP from DL courtesy of the changes to the Skymiles program.
I'll be able to earn them by mid-February, but I can see why you long-time HP flyers might not be that impressed.

My 5000 bonus elite qualifying miles just posted, shooting me past silver qualif for 2004. Wasn't all too hard; just redirected HH bookings to HP for 500 miles/stay, and signed up for Sprint LD (already switched back to my regular carrier) and Earthlink (already cancelled account). In the process, received ~ 10,000 bonus miles from Earthlink and Sprint!
IMHO, this promo wasn't a dud....if it was just for 5000 regular bonus miles I would agree....but the Elite miles made it worth my time.
