Help....I'm horrible at making decisions: 777 vs 787
Planning two longhaul flights (US to Japan) this coming winter for our family.
Our choices are being the 787-10 (United Codeshare) and the 777-300ER (ANA Direct).
Seating Section: Premium Economy
We've flown both airlines to Japan before, but as I've done a deep dive, it seems like people may love the 777 more than the 787-10 when it comes to premium economy.
Is that an accurate assessment?
Here's why I ask:
The cost to fly the 777 BOTH ways is about $200 more per person (in contrast to the 787 on the way out and the 777 on the way home).
Any thoughts/advise would be appreciated!

When flying other than business, I usually look at the number of lavatories for each cabin. If the united flight provides access to one or both of the lavs right in front, then I would go for united. (4 Lavs seems like a lot for 1 business section). Otherwise, if flying ANA, it depends whether you fly the newer or older cabin. The older cabin has 5 lavs shared with both PE and E, while the new one just has 4 for more seats! (Source aerolopa). Personally I would pick ANA for the food and service, plus I dislike the 787 dimming windows which some airlines block into dark mode.

I'd go for ANA over United any day. Assuming that the scheduling and price are in the same ballpark.

are the fare buckets different (i.e. ANA flight only has A available while United flight has cheaper R available?)
do you have status on United or ANA? which mileage program are you posting the miles to?
generally the food/service is better on ANA, though ANA PE food is same as Economy (they do get leftover business desserts). United PE food is different than Economy
which airport are you flying from? on some airports, ANA offer PE lounge access (but not if you fly on United)

for PE? should be similar
United PE:
https://thepointsguy.com/reviews/uni...conomy-europe/
38" pitch, 19" width, 6" recline, 13.3" screen
ANA PE:
they no longer show the oldest plane (where Y is 2-4-3)... hence i'm curious which layout OP will have
for the newer layouts:
https://www.ana.co.jp/en/us/travel-i...emium-economy/
38" pitch, 19.3" width, ? recline, 10.6" screen (the newest ANA 77W has 15.6" screen)
for Y? depends on plane and if you have United status (for E+)

generally ANA and United are jointventure partners for CONUSA-Japan, so the fare rules availability should be same
are the fare buckets different (i.e. ANA flight only has A available while United flight has cheaper R available?) it's odd; looks like we have to book through ANA b/c UA isn't selling the return flight PEK-HND-ORD.

either way, ticket only sold by ANA. what is the fare class for the ANA flight versus the (codeshare) United flight
I bet that the ANA flight (more expensive) is in G/E, and United flight is in N (or R, dont remember how codeshares show up)
when leaving from ORD, you get United Club lounge access only when flying on ANA Premium Economy.
ANA counter only opens 3 hour before flight (unlike United, where you could check in 4 hours earlier, sometimes earlier YMMV)

PEK: no lounge

HND: ANA lounge only when flying on ANA premium economy

ANA used to have this layout on the website, but you can see that it's no longer on the latest website
B777-300ER (264/ 250/ 212-seat)
https://web.archive.org/web/20200803...emium-economy/
212-seat/New 212-seat
https://www.ana.co.jp/en/us/travel-i...emium-economy/
I dont know whether ANA still has this layout (264 seats) flying - aerolopa doesnt think so

you linked to the layout 1, which has 264 seats (8+52+24+166 = 264)

I know people are saying seatguru is no longer reliable for reviews, but was hoping they'd still be reliable when it came to what specific plane was on the schedule.

Is there a better source where I can find exact what plane configuration they're using for my potential flights?
