does ANA still have caviar service in F?

Excuse me for posting such a basic question, but trying to search the forum w/ the Flyertalk app (horrible) only gives me an error "invalid api signature"?

Anyways, I just read a trip report from 5/15 that said ANA did not serve caviar on their IAD-NRT flight. What a shame that would be, as I just booked my first ever ANA F ticket (SFO-NRT). Thanks!

According to the website, there is a "Scallop and lobster with caviar, fruit sauce" dish on the current SFO-NRT flight. The last time I flew F there was just a dollop of caviar on top of whatever fish they were serving as the appetizer. I don't think ANA has done a full caviar service for a while now.

It looks like they stopped the caviar service in December 2014 at least ex-US.

Compare the two menus.

September - November 2014 IAD-NRT

December 2014 - February 2015 IAD-NRT

I guess I got lucky to have the caviar service in November 2014 before it was cut. While the caviar service seems to have been cut per the menus it wouldn't deter me from flying NH F again.

At least on the HND-LHR route it seems like the caviar service was cut in June 2014.

March 2014 - May 2014 HND-LHR

They haven't had caviar for a while. Much as I like it, probably a good move to protect the sturgeon. Japan outbound had switched from Sturgeon caviar to Paddlefish caviar sometime earlier. Not really a hit with the pax so I guess they figured no caviar was better than inferior caviar.

I highly they doubt they cut caviar for ethical reasons. It came along with the downgrade of Rimowa kits, so it's likely a cost-cutting measure. The product has declined overall, unfortunately.

Perceived brand quality downgrade. I doubt there was much/if any cost difference between the cases.

But at least they've introduced tarmac Lexus transfers for F at HND.

I've flown NH F twice since the traditional caviar service was "enhanced". To be honest, I actually enjoyed the new format appetizers with caviar more than the regular service, and there was not significantly less caviar.

Those look lovely. Assuming you got Western or did you ask for the caviar with the Japanese meal?

I had the Japanese meal on both flights as my "main" meal. It was as simple as asking for the caviar plates at the initial meal order.

I was able to get try Western plates later during the flight as well. I actually had seconds of the caviar appetizers as part of a mid-flight snack.

My experience with NH is you can ask for anything. The FA's will be more than happy to serve it. Most of the times the FA will even give me stuff I never asked for.

I've mostly done NH J except for NRT-ORD in F & I did Western (traditional caviar).
I'm doing JFK-NRT & NRT-SFO F in Nov & Dec. The first being not far away and right now the cabin is 2/8.

I am looking forward to the Japanese courses unlike on UA when I ordered it once and the FA scrunched her face and said "Are you sure that you'll like that??"
