Alitalia Since The 'Upgrade'
Morning everyone
I've had the misfortune to travel Alitalia three times in the past week since the upgrade to the new reservation system. Thought you might be interested in some observations and i'd be interested to know if any of you are experiencing the same issues:
- see plans seem to no longer recognised your frequent-flier status level so comfort seats are not shown at all as an option when checking in online
- The electronic boarding card, when you can actually manage to download it, no longer shows a background colour according to your frequent-flier status (being CFA The boarding cards on my iPhone always previously had a gold background) . They are now all plain white and do not even show the locate a rest.
- you can no longer search your upcoming flights on the website through the my flights tab using your Alitalia frequent flyer login details
- The crediting of points seems to have been suspended. By that I mean usually one or two days after taking and Alitalia flight you would see their activity already posted on your statement. I would expect the flights I took on Monday and Tuesday to be there now on Saturday, they are not.
Any other observations/comments/criticisms? It doesn't appear to be going smoothly.

Ok, I have some new info. With Alitalia I've sadly learned that each agent's competency seems to vary from one to another. I called back about a dozen times until I finally found an agent that was a veteran at Alitalia. All of the other calls ended quickly, they could not put a flight on hold anymore using the new system.
HOWEVER, the agent I finally got to said that the this was her first time putting a flight on hold under the new system. What that requires her to do is to contact a particular department that will transfer the requisite points into my account, she then has to code those points as "temporary" and then books the award flights. I then have 72 hours to ensure the required points are in my account.
The process took about 38 min on the phone. And I ultimately received a confirmation email for the reservation although there's no mention in that reservation that it is on hold for 72 hours.
So, bottom line, it appears to still be possible to put flights on hold. Just be patient in terms of finding the right agent.

I've also noticed Another issue with Alitalia since their system upgrade took place a couple of weeks ago:
-When booking a ticket or checking-in online as a MilleMiglia Freccia Alata customer, you can no longer select exit row or comfort seats. Seat plans do not offer them to be chosen.
Anyone else noticed this?

Just out of curiosity are all of these issues relating to bookings that were made on the old system before the upgrade or are they also on bookings made after the upgrade?
I had a delay with some miles begin credited - I say delay - like you they were not there within the usual 48 hours, so I requested online on the 3rd day after flying and they were credited immediately (including miles from my daughter's MM Kids account).
I also had the same issue with the seat plan not allowing selection on comfort seats for FAL - called the service center to allocate them.
Both of these were on a PNR made on the old system but flying after the upgrade.
On the "good" side I noticed on the boarding cards they now actually print the correct fare tarif (i.e X, N, T etc.. in stead of just Y for all economy). The abbreviations for Elite members have also changed on the boarding cards - CFA is now FAL.

Amongst the various annoying things: if there's no availability on a given flight, the website will display an error message, which doesn't really give you the idea and one obviously ends up thinking that there's an issue with the website itself, which prompts you to go and check the likes of Google Flights or Skyscanner, only to find out that the flight/s in question is/are actually not available; moreover, whenever I try to amend some details (e.g. frequent flyer number) on a confirmed booking, the website will log you out automatically... I can say with confidence that the AZ website back in the 90s/early 00 was ages better both in terms of design and functionality, which basically says it all on how wrong things have recently gone for the airline...

From now on I use the AZ App to book a ticket or their mobile website on my phone as I cannot book a flight on the regular website since I have "Error" after selecting my seats, even when there actually is availability.
The down side of the App is that one cannot select a seat. So, I go back to the website, enter my confirmation ref, logged as a CFA+ member, but here too I cannot select a seat on a LightFare ticket. Therefore I call AZ CFA+ line and have all fixed. This is a waste of time and I wonder if or how much €€€ has AZ lost since the "upgrade" with all the "computer says no" can't book ticket mess.
The AZ phone operator was very apologetic and told me the IT team still has things to fix with the main website. And when i asked the check in agent about the "upgrade" the other day at FCO Lounge her answer was a desperate "mamma mia che casino! non c'è la facciamo più"

Me too - have been trying to book flights for two days using the website but keep getting an error after seat selection. Getting VERY fed up.

Follow on - having spent far too much time trying to book on line and getting the failure notice I hit the browser back button rather than closing the tab and suddenly got through to the payment screen and everything now sorted.

Had the same issue when trying to book a ticket on their website. Everything looks so user friendly and modern, but it is just terrible.
Their Plusgrade system for upgrades seems to be down also, no chance to log in with your booking reference ("system temporarily down" ).
