What are the fees and taxes when using the reward miles on AZ VS AA.
I cannot get a straight story.
This is going RT NYC to Italy in Oct.
Thanks

Setting aside for a moment that I wouldn't fly AA in Y if they PAID me to do so, taxes for an AZ roundtrip in J are approx 200 EUR on that route.

The difference is because you must pay YQ on AZ using their miles and not on AA.
@raistlin-it's not that bad. I get free food and drinks on both domestic and international flights and I have some eVIPs for international.
I'm getting somewhere around $30 for AA and more than $500 on AZ.

True AA_EXP09 on the costs but this is like comparing milk and biscuits
All Euro airlines charge more taxes than US airlines. But AZ charges less than most Euro airlines ( much less than AF - LH - KL - BA )

Y is much of a muchness - would take AZ on a A330 but not on other aircraft.

J no contest. AZ wins. New seat is WAY better than AA although I personally enjoyed my flight on a 777 LHR / JFK with AA last year

On AA awards, on AA metal, fees and taxes are the same for Y and J.

Currently a roundtrip on AA's JFK-FCO would cost a total of $42.60.
(JFK-FCO costs $2.50 and FCO-JFK is $40.10).

And currently a roundtrip JFK-MXP costs $50.80.
(JFK-MXP is $2.50 and MXP-JFK is $48.30)

That is very very very cheap. That really is a "free" flight

AZ charges have creeped up over past years (like all Airlines etc) but I do hope AZ doesn't increase their fees any more

On those prices I'd fly AA full stop
