Going to AK for 10 days in mid-September. Itinerary is Fairbanks, Denali NP, then Anchorage. Won't be backpacking or camping, but walking on trails, look for the aurora, visiting museums.
I see tips for winter and summer but no suggestions for what to pack for fall. If it matters, will be checking my bag and will have a rental car.

Welcome to FT!
I think the best advice is to plan for layers. Chances are you'll have rain for one or more days (maybe 8 or 10
) so having some kind of rain jacket that you can wear over a variety of tops - shirts, sweaters etc. - makes the most sense. I'd pick some sturdy walking shoes or boots if you plan on walking on trails, and make sure they're waterproofed or water resistant. For Fairbanks and Anchorage, dress casually as you would in any other urban setting. You're not going to get winter conditions except possibly at very high elevations.

Assume OP is in New Jersey based on user name -- basically, mid-September in Alaska would be roughly equivalent to mid-November in New Jersey. Anything from 55 and sunny to 35 and rainy, maybe both on the same day. Fairbanks is the bigger weather wildcard - it would be early for snow but it has happened before on occasion.
