December Driving

In the middle of possibly planning a trip. As a non native to snowy conditions, how hard will it be to drive in Anchorage in early-mid December? Debating whether to rent a car or not. My main concern would be ice/slush on the roads.

In the city of Anchorage you should be fine, the only exception being the day or two following a new storm when they work to get the roads cleared. You may have trouble in neighborhoods, where the snow gets compacted (icy) before it can be plowed.

The biggest thing to worry about is speed. You don't know when you're going to hit an icy or slippery spot, so if you do drive go slow, like grandma-speed slow.
