Was just on the Matanuska heading through Petersburg a couple of months ago, and have been through there many times before that. Apparently the issue wasn't the tides, but a fishing vessel that got in the way as the boat was turning, forcing the Matanuska to take evasive action to keep from hitting it. It makes sense that it wouldn't be the tides, as ferries have been going through that area for nearly 50 years without something like this happening...
