Could it happen to us?

http://www.usatoday.com/travel/fligh...n_N.htm?csp=34

Wonder if Missy could weigh in on this....or someone going to the next Gold lunch ask the question that has an answer I may not want to hear....but I'm asking it, anyway.

Instituting this policy for intra-Alaska travel, where the pax can check three bags.....well....it makes me shudder.

I would presume (gulp) that AS would exempt those with status, but for everyone else....there goes the overhead space.

Hey, I like that they quoted FT in the story!

Boo on UA. I understand where they're coming from (and I think we can all agree that some people do need to learn how to pack less), but there are valid reasons for checking two bags sometimes--say, when I fly to the Lower 48 and do a bit of shopping for goods not offered up here, or when I bring certain fine beverages home for a certain FTer who lives downstream from my house. And regardless of that, this policy is going to hurt OTP and cause problems and fighting due to competition for the overhead bin space.

I hope AS never stoops this low...

If you're coming unraveled at the inconvenience of travel, you must be flying UNTIED.

I also will travel with more than one bag if I am staying for any length of time.

I would rather see the airline impose some kind of fee on carry on luggage. I am so tired of what people class as carry on. I got hit in the face with some woman's HUGE bag the other day, she broke my glasses, gave me a black eye and it broke several blood vessels in my eye (you know that attractive BRIGHT RED in the white of you eye). The cow didn't even apologize. She actually got mad at me for being in the way of her swinging her HUGE bag into the bin. I was seated in my aisle seat thank you minding my own business when I got hit.

The focus should be on carry-on bags not checked luggage. Hardly anyone enforces the carry-on limit anymore and the amount of stuff brought on is crazy. This usually delays the boarding process and stresses out the passengers.

United's baggage handlers will be dealing with larger and heavy bags. Sounds like good business for chiropractors near UA hubs.
