Chicago to Ixtapa…

Is this the first Alaska route that doesn’t originate or end in AK, WA, OR, or CA?

They recently announced LAS-SJD

The press release crows that Alaska is "LAX’s largest carrier to Latin America", which must be true but is somehow hard to believe.

Yeah, no thanks. If we're talking Central America or Mexico, I would have liked to see LAX-PTY or LAX-CZM....

I heard a rumor that either Punta Cana, DR (PUJ) or San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) are being considered. I wouldn't be surprised if PTY comes. I'd like to see Loreto (LTO) come back.

Crossing the border from Belize to Guatemala back in the early 2000s was quite the experience I must say. The "border station" was definitely a different experience at that time. Seeing Tikal was worth it though!

GUA is probably not vacation demand but people visiting the homeland.

I feel like it's on the cusp of being the next Costa Rica in terms of travel. I know F9 and some LCCs fly there from the US as well as all of the legacies I believe.

LAX-GUA is already served by Volaris, Avianca, United, and Delta. Clearly there's demand, and Alaska is counting on just a little bit more.

Come back? Are they canceling LAX-LTO? I thought LAX-LTO was running year-round and SFO was added, too. And AA added PHX this year, I think?

Operated "in partnership with ALG Vacations", so perhaps they have pre-sold a large block of seats? Also, just once a week (Saturdays, I assume?)

Hah, that was our experience as well. Looks like we did a very similar road trip from Belize. Tikal was truly awesome, Tikal Tummy the next day was the worst food poisoning I have ever experienced. Doesn't really inspire me to want to go to Guatemala at this time.

My bad. I never really followed it after they canceled it the first time.
