SAN does seem to have open gates -- not a huge fan of the seating area where most of the AS departures are, it gets cramped -- but a close walk to the Aspire lounge.
I guess AS is planning to do something to fill up those 4 daily PDX nonstops and 6(!) daily SEA with connecting traffic.

This is very clearly meant to capture point to point traffic out of SAN and enhance the focus city.

Loading on the PDX-SAN planes lately is abysmal -- 5(!) non-stops today.
The morning departure today was 80% empty -- the two next departures at 50% empty, afternoon better around 25% empty and the night departure is 80% empty. (1 passenger total seated between row 22 and row 32!)
They haven't lowered prices enough to drum up demand -- not sure what the strategy is here.

bouncing around - there are noticeably fewer flts from LA area.. HI were decimated, many smaller - AUS, RNO, FAT, SLC etc vanished or greatly reduced as well... maybe they can anchor in SAN but i doubt - connecting hubs in extreme northwest or extreme southwest seems nuts...
