No AS award between NZ and OZ?

I was trying to book QF award ZQN-SYD with AS miles, and got "We could not fulfill your request" error. It looks like AS award chart no longer offers options between NZ and OZ. I can still book LAX-SYD(stopover)-AKL, but not standalone NZ-OZ trips.

I flew AKL-MEL on AS award pre-covid. Anybody knows when AS removed this option?

The AS Award Charts show no options between Australia and New Zealand, so I guess it is currenty not possible.

If available to the OP, using AA miles might be reasonable for this route.

Was MEL-AKL in conjunction with a long haul AS award flight?
From memory (and old pdf's) AS have never had NZ<--->AU as an award option.

For ZQN-SYD what class of travel and when?
NZ--->east coast AU flight take about 3:30hr and can be/were cheap. Pre CV19 were often from ~NZ$250 (or less-more) one way in economy. Now about $100 more. Pre CV19 airlines were NZ, QF JQ & VA.

With AA zone based awards NZ--->east coast AU not good value. NZ--->west coast/far north QLD-NT AU great value.

My AKL-MEL was on a single segment ticket. That was in July 2018. It's interesting that even old pdf's didn't have NZ-AU.

I was looking at ZQN-SYD in J on Nov10. Since AS is not possible, I could do BA(22K) or AA(25K). I think this medium-haul is the sweet spot of BA J redemption and I should go for it.
