Excellent suggestion. I have created a thread for discussing companion upgrade experiences.

AS1055 LAX-SEA B739 Cleared at T-23
AS86 SEA-JFK A21N Cleared at T-114

Feb 17th Thursday
AS7 JFK-SEA A21N Cleared at T-114
AS1436 SEA-LAX A21N CLEARED AT THE GATE. Didn't clear at T-23 so I remained #1 of 21, surprisingly cleared at the gate.

Booked in Dec 2021, initially rebooked in Jan 2022, then rebooked again in Feb 2022. G class for all legs. Still 30K EQM left before hitting 100K. So tired..

When I started the mileage runs this year, it seemed like such a daunting experience, but once I got a few flights past halfway, I was somewhat sad they were coming to an end. So, in my experience, it does get much better towards the end (especially with trying to reach 100K organically without the EQM bonus). At least I’ll have my normal flights for the rest of the year to look forward to.

Yeah but the only problem for me is that I don't really have normal flights planned (for now), so once I finish all my MR I will miss going to airport 2X weekly for sure..

SLC-SEA, #788, 737-8
Booked: 12/13/21
Companion: MVP
#1&2 on waitlist with 3 seats open, then went to 1 open about 4-5 hours before the flight. At the gate I asked the agent if there was still one seat available and since it was, if she could manually upgrade my wife. She agreed to, and after a lot of effort (and my suggestion) split our reservation and my wife was upgraded. Apologies to the single passenger at #5 on the waitlist.

The idea that we might have missed upgrades because they only open one seat at a time is really frustrating. There were 3 couples in the top 7 on the waitlist, so seems like the policy does not align with the elites that are flying these days. At least who was flying SLC-SEA #788 on a Saturday, 2/19. Of course it's possible someone up-fared those first 2 seats and we were not skipped, I didn't watch the waitlist obsessively.

For the first 32 segments of the year, upgraded to FC on 28 -- open middles in premium on the rest. I'd like to clone these for the next 32 segments.

100K G class
SEA to HNL in Feb
SDCed to this flight at T-20. Was #5 on UL with 0 seats in F at the time. T-6 hours, was auto upgraded to F, jumped over 1-4 who were companions.
HNL to SEA in Feb
Was #1 on UL with 0 F seats remaining at check-in. T-3 hours, auto upgraded to F.

Didn't expect upgrade on either of these flights, so it was a bit suprising especially to have jumped over multiple folks on the first one.

AS sent me an email notification.

We watched this with interest as AS was still selling F seats yesterday and the seat map showed four vacant seats in various parts of the cabin.

We were both assigned window seats and had time to move one of us to a vacant aisle in front of the other window, so we may be able to make a trade with one of our seatmates. It’s no big deal for this relatively short flight of under three hours. We were 2 and 3 on a waitlist of 26 and did not split our itins.

In the first few weeks as 100ks we’ve missed UGs flying SEA-FLL, FLL-SEA, PDX-HNL, and HNL-SFO. Our UG SFO-SEA a few days ago did clear well in advance, and we’re pleased the system worked for today's flight, even though a little later than we would have preferred.
