I've been flying AS for my whole life, but only technically been a Mileage Plan member for ~10 years. When I was growing up, my dad had a ton of business spend, all of which he put through his AS card, so all the flights I flew as a kid, up through to/from college, were mileage redemptions from his account.

I wound up creating my account when I needed to "fly free" from the nest. (aka. I wanted to visit a romantic interest, without clearing it with him! )

26 years.

First time I flew AS? January 1989. Using an AS 727-200 (same aircraft) between DFW and FAI. DFW-SEA (Operated by AA); SEA-ANC-FAI (Operated by AS). I believe that flight originated in IAH and arrived in FAI in the afternoon.
At the time there was a sister shared flight ORD-SEA-ANC-FAI using an AA 727-200 (arrived in FAI late evening and returned to ANC, SEA and ORD as the southbound redeye.
That was back when the meals in Y on AS were as good as if not better meals in F today.

21+ years here. Started flying prior to 2000 but didn't sign up for Mileage Plan until then (senior year of high school). 267,299 miles towards MM.

Gold Coast Travel was the first remake of Gold and Travel. It came about because the VP of marketing found out the ingot incentive cost a lot more than the program was making. I’m still holding out for the FT’r who is an AS Milage Plan OG with a Gold and Travel card! C’mon man, we know you’re out there!

What was the ingot incentive? I have seen a couple of mentions of that.

Ah, when they took over Virgin America. Matter of fact, if I recall, they started the account for me and emailed me the information or some kind of transition. Only thing I recall were the match the 75K, my aversion to reading and procrastination on learning the program essentially wasted that first year. So, the second year because of non-activity during my first, I was only able to keep MVP Gold.

I've been using and leveraging the program ever since and pre-pandemic, 90% of my earnings were from partners. Now, it's about 80% AS metal.

Is the base # 6 or 7 digits? Mine is 7, but rumor has it that there are some 6 digit numbers.
