What the Heck? SEA-PDX Shuttles at $399 3/25 and 26

Looking at day trip slash mileage run opportunities from SEA next year and noticed all SEA-PDX shuttle flights except the 6:00 AM on March 26 and 27 are pricing out at $399 each way. I can't figure out what the heck is going on in these cities that weekend to justify those fares?!

Edit: the returns PDX-SEA on those days are normally priced, too. . .

Looking @ Expert Flyer, there is only Y fare inventory on 3/25 for all flights after 7:00am. However, the seat maps look pretty empty. Probably just a glitch in the matrix.

Spring break, spring break, spring break break break!

That's the end of Oregon spring break this year, and all the airlines know it. Anything inbound to Oregon on March 25-27 is going to be nuts.

Yeah, Spring Break schedules have been set now for a long time and most of Oregon's K-12 schools take Spring Break around the last full week of March every year....very predictable and easy for airlines to plan for it accordingly. I have taken a lot of mileage runs in my life but taking them during the last half of March is like trying to find a good deal during the holidays....not gonna happen Those SEA-PDX flights at the end of Spring Break will be sold out in a month or two if not sooner....I started a thread about it one year.

Yep, spring break. I bet they are trying to keep them open for connections in SEA.

In my experience AS is one of the worst at surge pricing around the holidays and spring break.

Or the "best", if you're running the business. Same thing with fares the second week of March in and out of Anchorage, the spring break schedule is earlier up here.

I lived in ANC for 12 years. Believe it or not AS isn’t nearly as heinous with holiday pricing out of there as they used to be.

I expect that "Heck" is not the word of choice if one is confronted (with little option) with one of these fares. Agree generally that AS would be foolish to sell these right now at low fares when the seats may be necessary for connecting holiday traffic. Inability to get the SEA/PDX tags could (figuratively) drive people to fly Variant or another carrier.

Is PAE an option for you? The pricing is much more reasonable on that weekend.

If PAE isn't an option, what about AMTRAK?

I think the OP was doing this as a MR so I don't think Amtrak would work.

I think we are pretty lucky here overall with AS I have spent some time searching Air Canada Fares and Alaska feels super reasonable!
