I got an email from AA on this earlier this week but not yet from AS.

I assume 2 + 2 would have to be credited to a single carrier to qualify, or 8 total flights (4 + 4) if you want 2K at each account??

Appears so, at least for this one. From the T&C:

To qualify, each flight must be eligible to earn Mileage Plan miles and must be credited to your Mileage Plan account (if booking on American's website, select Alaska's loyalty program and input your Mileage Plan number for the flight to qualify).
There's an equivalent AA promo? Is it targeted, or can anyone sign up?

Check the promotion tab in your AA account. I see a registration link in there.

Not seeing it so I suppose it’s targeted, which is a little irritating since it appears the AS promo is open to everyone.

I got the email from AA earlier this week as well, which I found odd as I haven't flown them since 2019.

As usual, nothing from AS on this one, so thank you for posting it!

Great promotion if you were already planning to fly these flights, but nothing I would go out of my way for....I get more miles if my checked bag is 5 min. late....lol.

Thanks. The AS T&C on this promotion makes is super clear on how to qualify:

Meanwhile, here is AA's:

Assume one would need to credit to AA. Maybe AA also assumes it's obvious so it doesn't need to be explicitly called out.

And, yes, AA's is targeted.

I will register for the promotion but I won't change my flying habits for a 2K bonus. If it comes organically, great, otherwise it could actually cost you RDM if flying AA economy.

There is some utility for markets AA flies and AS doesn't and vise versa but I would still look for alternatives such that the AA segments are sub 500 mile flights.

With the recent COS reduction to 50% for discounted AS F fare classes, MileagePlan EQM/RDM earnings are now on par with discounted AA F fare classes. The same can not be said for eligible AA economy classes, sans flights sub 500 miles in distance. An AA PHX-LAX flight in O class will still earn 500 EQM, 1125 RDM for a 75K.

If I compare 2 returns SEA-PHX (1106 miles) on AS with 1 return on AS & 1 return on AA for the bonus 2K RDM & assuming that discounted economy fares on both carriers are similar:

As a 75K, I can select Premium at booking, complimentary, and I have a very good chance of a complimentary upgrade to F on AS. Currently, I will get a complimentary wine or beer and a snack. I can also pre-order a Fruit & Cheese Plater in Premium.

As a 75K, I can select MCE at booking, complimentary, and I have a "chance" of an upgrade to F on AA. Currently, I won't receive anything for food and beverage.

2 AS returns will earn 1,106×4 = 4424 EQM & 9,954 RDM.

AS EQM on the lowest eligible AA fare class, which earns 25% of distance, will earn the 500 mile minimum 500(277)

1 AS return will earn 1,106×2 = 2212 EQM & 4,977 EQM + 1 AA return will earn 500×2 = 1,000 EQM & 2,250 RDM totalling 3,212 EQM & 7,277 EQM.

By switching to AA on the second return for this route, you would earn a 2,000 RDM Bonus but the net effect would be losing 1,212 EQM & 727 RDM even after the 2K bonus. Not very attractive.

If I flew 1 AS SEA-PHX return & 1 AA PHX-LAX return then the net effect is a 2K bonus & something that I would do organically.

I have not factored in the current 50% EQM Bonus on AS flights since there are markets where AA has utility and AS isn't present.

AA west coast presense is much weaker than AS, other than transcon. But I don't think we are eligible to upgrade to AA transcon (they call it flagship first? or premium business? not sure) First yet? I could be wrong there. I agree the above, organically, nice 2k miles. Otherwise, not worth it.
