AS stopover math: 12.5k + 10k= 10k
Was looking for a relatively close in flight back to Seattle which is cash expensive and as we all know, T-14 is generally 12.5k even on routes that are 7.5k or even 5k further out.
For kicks i decided i would add a SEA-yyy segment on to the end thinking, at least for 12.5k we get another “free” flight. Imagine my surprise when i booked xxx-SEA-yyy with a stop and showed up at only 10k per person. Turns out xxx-yyy is on sale for 10k and you get that price even with a stopover as long as W class is available both segments.

yeah, agree, anytime we’re away from home and looking to fly back I see what kind of magic I can work with an Alaska redemption. With the ability to put cash tickets back in your wallet with no penalty, it makes a ton of sense to do arbitrage between existing cash tickets and award opportunities.

Anyone else notice that when SEA-PDX is "on sale" for 5K miles that there is at least one intermediate city that the booking engine seems to allow transit in, and of course a stopover still for only 5k? And I am not referring to some city that has magically appeared with AS service in between SEA and PDX ;-) This prices out this way even when the one way award to that intermediate city is 12.5k. Odd math in that award engine.

But it is nothing like some of those bizarre multi segment "boomerangs" that some people booked and flew on EK with MP miles though. It's kind of funny how AS and Avianca were particular ignorant of geography when calculating permitted partner award routings.
