I flew on N265AK in Jan 2017, and until now had forgotten about these notes
in each seat pocket was an "Alaska Airlines Salutes" brochure that enumerated some of the airline's actions to acknowledge the contributions and sacrifices of military personnel
it immediately struck me that AS was taking a significantly different approach to recognizing service members: the word "Heroes" being conspicuously absent from both the jet and the brochure ... writ large, I think the over-use of that word in reference to everyone who wears a uniform diminishes the value and impact of those whose actions in both combat and non-combat situations truly merit it
yes, I'm proud of my 28 years of service — the better part of the last four on near-full-time active duty, including a year in Mobilization status (1 Oct 2001 to 30 Sep 2002) at the Pentagon; most of the rest doing flight test engineering, acquisition, and technical management work in various Reserve billets — but I don't in any way consider myself a hero for having worn the uniform
I would like to thank Alaska Airlines for what I believe is a far more appropriate designation for these jets

My AS846 KOA-SMF flight on 29 Aug 2019 was operated by Boeing 737-800 (ETOPS) N570AS. As a veteran, I appreciated the effort. (Please don’t thank me for my service. All gave some, some gave all - this Memorial Day we remember those who gave all. Think of, and thank, them.)
