ANC Alaska Lounge Is Getting a Facelift

I was in the ANC Alaska Lounge on Thursday, Jan. 10. As I walked through the door on the main level I noticed a building permit posted in the window. Once inside, I spoke to the agent at the desk and she gave me some insight into what is happening.

1. Construction permit posted on the window on the main level
2. Work will start as soon as all materials are on site
3. Conference room is going away to create new seating area (it was seldom used)
4. All new furniture themed in Alaska Airlines colors. When I went to hang my coat in the closet I saw metal furniture in the AS medium blue color with a retro 1950's look. My guess is that will replace the black bistro furniture
5. Work will be done over a very short period of time

The furniture I saw looked similar to this

I did not ask if all of the AL's are getting a facelift but I read somewhere that they all are. There is a new Bored Room Manager for all of the lounges who plans to make big changes. That may be related to a survey I took from AS a couple of weeks go.

This new manager has "procured more money for [PDX] than we've ever had" and "they're committed to spending money," according to one of my friends there.

Of course, this is probably why the three year membership has gone away...

Once renovations are done at all locations, I am shere AS bean counters will start raising membership prices and restrict access to family members☹️

This is disappointing to hear. Not the refresh, the fact that the OP needed a coat (which he hung in the closet). It is already mid-January, with days getting longer. I bet there are at least 2 FTers who would have let us know that it was way too warm to wear a coat that day.

It was 0 F outside so I was wearing a light jacket. I did not need to take it off to go through TSA.

Yah, we know

(Why do I think that the next time I see the OP, my Col Solare will have been substituted with Boone's Farm.)

I agree. They have more of a fast food look.

I was instantly reminded of the reason McDonalds seats are the way they are.

Credit where credit is due:

Whoever is responsible for the recent facelift of the LAX Lounge chocolates should get a prize.

Went from having a bowl of good chocolate bites hidden amongst the mints to a WHOLE BOWL of Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Pepermint Bark Squares!

I don't care if they were on sale after the holidays, I consider that an improvement.

Perhaps they decided the best way to deal with the poorly-wearing furniture they have now is to go all the way in the opposite direction. With the side effect of reducing overcrowding by discouraging people from lingering too long.

Have another drink or two and you won't care, I say.

Looks like they'll be able to just install some floor drains and high pressure wash the entire place down.

As for the OP's title " The Bored Room is getting a facelift " it looks like one of those facelifts that people went to another country to save some $$$ and you end up seeing the results on Botched.

Joey Tribianni from the TV show Friends: If we could only make it so the customers don't want to stay too long or don't want to enter in the first place, then the overcrowding problem is solved! (while tapping their temple with their finger as if he is smart)

Are those horrible blue chairs replacing the upholstered ones or will they be used in a sort of dining area with the stools used along the window "desks?" OMG... if those are the new sitting area chairs, the gates will be more comfortable. My old bones just won't be happy.
